Does anybody ever fish the south side of lake st clair on the canada side? Just curious... I think its a quicker drive for me than going all the way up to anchor bay.

If I had to drive by Mitchell's Bay and St Lukes to get to Anchor Bay, you would never see me in Anchor Bay! :p This would hold true for ice and soft water. :)

I know alot of people fish Mitchell bay, but im talking around a half hour drive from detroit on the south side of the lake. I dont know if there is any public access anywhere, just curious if anybody ever gets on the ice there because I never see anyone posting about it.

Sounds to me like your referring to the shoreline areas of the Belle, the Ruscum, Puce and Pikes Creek areas, correct? Those areas are all dynamite for the softwater season, however, I can't really get at em on the hardwater. If you lived in Canada, near the Thames or something like that, I'm sure you could, safe ice permitting of course. But you would definately have to drive over to Canada first. In a perfect world, I would love for LSC to freeze so deeply that I could just ride a machine from the Delphine to the Puce. I know, keep dreaming. To much current for that area within a 5 to 10 mile radius of Peche Island to ever truly freeze. That's why LSC is never truly safely locked in IMO.

Thank you fish eater... that is exactly the area I am talking about. My biggest concern is the safety of the ice as I have never ice fished water as big as st. clair before and will most likely be going alone. Maybe Ill just stick to the north end for this year.

When I was a kid we would fish Belle River hump in the winter. It was better for walleye than perch. We never really perch fished the area though.

Yes - there is very good hard water fishing on the South Shore.
However .....here is the bad news. All the rain and such had demolished the South Shore fishing areas. Was talking with some Canadian pals tonight, and for sure the Thames, Ruscom and Belle were all dumping lots of mud. All were said to be raised way up, compared to a week ago, and no longer frozen.
Also was noted, much open water in front these areas now. Some places far as eye can see, kinda talk. So....not thinking you will have much luck over there, if you find access. Cant comment on Pikes Creek or da Puce...but can only imagine the same there.
