So who got the bear this year? Season started off great but sure slowed down by second and third season due to mother nature not cooperating with cold weather and snow. All and all the bear kill appeared to be done this year will have to wait for the DNR stats tho for the official talley.

Well, my bear season went well. Excellent, in fact. But it wasn't in Michigan and it was this past spring. I went to Manitoba for a spring black bear. I killed a nice boar and left him to the taxidermy in Winnipeg. I just got my rug in the mail. Wow, is he beautiful. I swear the thing still looks like he is alive! You should see the eyes. Anyway, I was very happy with the long waited result.
This was a very exciting hunt. The bear I shot was fighting with a sow for almost an hour before I could place a shot. The fight occured in the thick forest so I could only hear it, not see it. The sow had yearling cubs she was trying to protect. The hair on the back of my neck was quite prickled as you can guess. I do not know if the boar was trying to breed her or eat the cubs but what a thrilling evening it was.
I also got some very tasty meat from this bear. By spring I should get something from Canada telling me how old the beast was.

Not so good, but everyone had fun. Two hunters missed sompletely(bear fever) another didn't see anything but still enjoyed the experience, I also never saw anything. I attempted to get bear for others and like you said later in season bears quite hitting. NEXT YEAR!!

Redtoads congrads on your bear. We got our bears back too this fall from last year. One was a 3/4 mount the other a rug. A good taxadermists makes a world of differance. As you said with your mount our lokk real as well. In fact the baby sitter wants us to cover them up when she comes to the house because they scar her, lol.
Yooper I truely agree the bear season was not one of the best but was alot of fun. Hope this next year is alot better.

I guide in the Baraga district as a hobby. We were 3 for 3 this year. All of the bears were around #200 feild dressed. We got a #350 the year before. This was the first week .In the Newberry district the hunts I was involved in went 2 out of 3.Both of them were about #200.In the Baldwin district we were skunked 0 for 2.Once the dogs were turned loose the bears went nocturnal at our spots. They still hit the bait every night. We got a nice sow in Baldwin the year before though.

I didin't hunt in the state this year. Iwent to Ontario. I had one of the best hunts. even, though i didn't end up with a bear. We had six guys in camp and three of them shot bears. One guy shot a four hundred pound bear with a long bow. Now that takes dedication. Maybe next year will be my year. Good hunting.
