So what do you guys think? Tomorrow is the only day I have until next weekend. I'm gonna head out tomorrow in the afternoon, hopefully this rain doesn't ruin everything. If it's 4-5 at cotton hopefully it will be at least 3 by tomorrow afternoon(Brandenburg area). I guess if worse comes to worse I can go to an inland Oakland Co lake. Any updates on ice conditions would be much appreciated.

It will be fine anywhere from Gino's to Fairhaven tomorrow. The only thing you have to worry about is a west wind.
Gino's still had 5-6 inches today in most places.
Keep your eyes open, though, as there are spots where run-off is opening things up.

Supposed to get an inch of rain tonight then 2-4 inches of snow, so who knows how that will effect the ice. Be careful if you go out:cool:

That's a little reassuring. I will definitely be spudding like crazy!

There is a lot of rain moving in right now on the radar....

I sure wouldn't be fishing anywhere S of the clinton river....warm runoff will help undercut that ice and it wasn't that great the other day....Been pretty warm the last 36 hours.

Fairhaven will be a safer bet.....

Not a real scientific report but there were no cars at the DNR launch at Selfridge. Still closed off maybe? Didn't go in just drove by.
About 15 -20 cars parked at Cotton Rd. I could make out a few bodies on the ice.
Brandenburg had 1 shanty about 50-75 yds left off the pier (looking out) and one guy walking between the pier and that shanty. Thats it.

Guess a short summary would mean that Brandenburg and Selfridge might be places to avoid!?

Hmmmm...I hope the lake won't be too bad. Guess I'll just have to find out. If anything I should be able to fish some canals. Thanks for the heads up!

Fair Haven DNR was empty this morning. There is usually a few anglers out this early even during the week. The ride home last night I saw several shanties pretty far out still. Ice looked like a zamboni had just resurfaced it, but its still thick. I am heading out for the day tomorrow, supposed to be the nicest weather over the next few days.

I think with the hard rain last night and warmer temps, getting on the ice at Cotton Rd. or Brandenberg will be risky at best. It will be easy to fall through the rotting ice even if it is 5 inches.

Fair Haven DNR ... I am heading out for the day tomorrow ...

Please DO post on the ice conditions you find up there. Planning on an outing for Friday, and as of this morning Bluewater Bait had no good info on the ice, other than a handful of guys being out on it.

selfridge most likely because of the crack, there was no way out, the only way people were getting out this weekend, someone (police, selfridge itself? i dont know) put a stop to it cause you had to walk on land on the other side of the canal, the crack went all the way down so you couldnt even climb down the ladder and cross.
its been pretty warm these last two days and its steadily raining now,(royal oak) and the snow is supposed to come, i wanted to get out tomorrow but doubt it will happen on LSC. probably gonna try somewhere inland in waterford.

I did a little detour this afternoon. Went by the Spillway-- Dam down and ALL the ice is out, at the DNR access only one truck parking as I pulled in. Talked to a young guy, walkig back to the truck because he forgot the bait. He said the ice was fine, he went about 40 yards, but I'm not sure how he knew, he had an auger. Then I went over the the day sail area at the beach. Couldnt believe my eyes, someone was out with a quad? Only about 6 people on the ice there.
This hasn't been the best year for good ice, and I notice a lot of guys with augers- hell 3 weeks ago when there was only 2 inchs of ice on the spillway- I saw a guy with a power auger! I'm a spud guy untill there's a good 8 inches of ice.
Possibley I'm paranoid- but after going for a little swim last spring- I like it that way. I;m afraid were going to loss someone before spring.
Tight lines.

I shall, the owner of the house I go out from said there are shanties out this afternoon, pretty far out too. The ice over there in the middle of the bar (Fair Haven, Ira Twp, Anchorville) is first to freeze and last to thaw.

Made it out today East of Salt River. BE CAREFUL!!! There is open water at the shore about the area of half a football field between Salt River and Brandenburg. I bought a spud just for today...didn't end up needing it, but I'd rather play it safe.

Fishing was slow, fished from 12-7. Came home with a dozen fish...mostly 6" with 2 that were 10".

Ice was pretty solid when I got out 5" but honeycombed on the lower 2". By the time I left it was a mess! 2-3" of slush on top. But hey, as long as it gets cold we should be right back where we left off before the rain.
