Anyone boated Portage Lake at Waterloo Rec. area?
I will be camping there over Labor Day and want to know how big Portage lake is.
I just called the park and the person that answered was no help. She sounded like she didn?t know what a boat was let alone what is maximum size vessel the lake will accompany.
I than asked if she knew who would and she said I?d have to contact the Sheriff but she didn?t know the number. Oh well she had a sweet sounding voice.

So I figured where better to find out information than here. The people on this web site always know more than the proprietors do anyhow.

It is a fairly large lake with a decent boat launch at the state park. It gets extremely heavy boating traffic on weekends and Labor Day will be one of the heaviest. If you want quality fishing, get up early in the morning. If your into skiing and the weather is nice, get some knee braces from all the rough water due to all the boat wakes. Great lake but overcrowded.

I should add, the lake has a lot of deep water and will handle a large boat up to about a 18-20 ftr. I wouldn't take a great lakes deep draft boat there. Shallow areas and docking areas are around 3-4 ft deep except right near shore

Thanks EDB.
The place is only an hour from home.
Been looking for a place to do some boating and such with a campground close to home.
