I went to a few tackle shops looking for a whippin rod but couldn't find one I like. I saw a while back on the forum that someone was making them. I'm looking for something stiff in the 4'-4'6" range with small eyes on it.

Anyone know where I can get one?

Lakeside Tackle almost always has them.

Also, the Gander Mountain in Taylor usually has them.

I bought the Grapentin St.Clair River Jerkin' Rod. I got them a few years ago at the bait store right next to the Fair Haven DNR launch on M-29. At the time they were $10 cheaper than Lakeside.

You're a funny guy Brian:yikes: Seriously though, about 5 years ago I started making custom rods, just havent advertised it much.

Currently working on finishing up a 12' sturgeon rod for myself. I also ordered all the fixins for a new jigging rod that ought to be SWEET!!!!

Custom rods arent cheap, but they are made "custom" for each particular angler. And knock on wood, I havent had any complaints yet!!!!

Heck, even Bluewater sells my ice fishin rods, which reminds me, I have to get 6 more of them up to him before he changes his mind with this weather and all!!!!:D

Get one with the rod blank all the way through to the end of the handle. It will help you feel the sinker hitting bottom better.........Bob B.

Not sure if they make custom rod's anymore, but the last three whipping rods I had made were done at Angler Rod and Reel in St.Clair.Thinking about having them make another one up for this Spring.

I have a grapentin rod and don't care for it. I think that it is too stiff. I would like to try something with a little action in the rod tip. Ice fishin nut pm sent.

I would suggest getting a custom one built exactly to your needs. Everyone has their own preferences and it will also depend on the area you fish because the current speed varies quite a bit along the river.
