Nice job today by all involved. Wish I could have stayed for the Whipping demonstration but I learn a little more about whipping each time I go out. Like anything, screwing up is the best way to learn!

They support what the club does. These include our dedication to having fishing events open to all kids such as the winter Kid's Ice Fishing Outing. They support the club because we go to bat for the fishermen in the area.
Two examples include when the LSCWA investigated the local township closing off the "road ending" at the end of Cotton Road. After our involvement the MUCC had the research they needed to take the township to court. Now ice fishermen can access the lake after they find legal parking within a short distance.
Another example was the fencing off of the St. Jean Ramp last summer. We were contacted first, within an hour of the fence going up. Again, the LSCWA and its members, did the leg work and the investigation into what was going on. After that we were able to go to the DNR and the MUCC to get them involved. I went down and took the pictures of the fence that the local DNR offices then used and sent to the DNR headquarters in Lansing. This was before there were articles appearing on the internet or in local newspapers. The fence is gone.
There is a good chance that there would not even have been a St. Jean Ramp after 1990 or so if it was not for the involvement of the LSCWA. Some of our members were very involved in following through with the transfer of the ramp from the DNR to the City of Detroit.
Most importantly, it was the LSCWA that spearheaded the push to ban all commercial fishing by Michigan based or Canadian commercial netters on Lake St. Clair.
One of our members was the court test case that helped to end the ban on sport fishing in Lake St. Clair. That was the ban that is sometimes now called the Mercury Ban.
There is much more.:)
