Question on 10/26/00 campfire was does a person lose their preference points if they get a participation license. The answer is no. Only time preference points are lost is if you get a kill tag for bear.

Hey Boehr if I change my hunt choice area next year, does that have any effect on my preference points. Do I take a deduction on the points. Also last year I did not join a party permit, if next year I add a partner to my application does that have any effect. BAYDOG

As far as preference points, it does not matter what unit you apply for, just that you applied. You only get 1 point per year, you only lose the points when you get a kill tag (or are drawn to obtain a kill tag). If you are not planning on hunting bear that year then you should indicate that you do not want to participate in the drawing, you just want to purchase and bank a point. The only way you lose your points, besides getting drawn, is if you do not apply for 3 or more years. If you apply as a party, the member of the party with the fewest number of points is the number of points used for qualification. Also, if your party gets drawn, you lose your points because all party members receive a kill tag.

Thanks boehr for the info it has answered alot of arguments that have been going on up here at the local welding shop.I guess everyone thinks they have the answer to the points system. When i asked you the question it was because i was told that you would lose your point by buying participation license i did not think so because it is not a kill tag. Some of the people here say you can carry a gun with the participation but i do not believe so.So let them find out the hard way.Well thanks again.
