I have been impressed with Kevin's service while e-mailing him and was just wondering if anyone has ever hunted with them. He offers hound hunts in the morning and bait hunts in the evening. He seems like an honest straight shooter. Has anyone ever dealt with them before?

I rode with them once. Didn't get a bear (my fault) They are great guys.
Spring creek rock on this forum is one of them. They do work hard for you.

His prices are more than reasonable. $800 for a 5 day bait hunt or $1200 for a 5 day hound and bait hunt. They also offer daily and three day hunts for even cheaper.

Are the hound hunts in the same area as the bait hunts? That does not make for a very good bait hunt if so. Unless you are the first guy in camp and the bears have not yet been ran...

Always blame it on the hounds... Ive run hounds and regardless what you all say baits will continue to be hit even with the dogs around.

Abby,
You're 100% correct about the misconception many bait hunters have. With the heavy hunting pressure on bear we now experience...it is common for one bear to visit other baits in the area. If a bear stops hitting your bait it is very likely another bait hunter harvested it.
A high percentage of hound hunters use bear baits to ensure their hounds will have a track to work on. It would not make sense for them to develop a bait site, haul feed to it on a regular basis, and then only be able to use it one time...if the misconception were true that hounds cause a bear to evacuate an area.

But if you continueosly run a certain bait and you think that before dark a mature bear is going to hit that bait it is just not going to happen.. They are too smart and they know what is at those bait sites that is not supposed to be there... If you wanna kill a 150lb bear or less i am sure you could..
If you talk to ANY outfitter whether it be in Canada or the US 9 times out of 10 they will not run even the same area as the bait sets.. And if they do it will be after all the bait hunters are done..
Different people prefer different ways of hunting, whichever way you prefer is up to you but to say that you can run an area and think that you will come back that night and shoot a big bear is just not going to happen.. They are too smart!

DS, I agree with what you stated. My point was directed at the feeling some hunters have that...if hounds are trailing within earshot of their bait site it will wreck their hunting, and if they have a bear hitting their bait and it just up and quits...there is a good chance another hunter harvested it.

As for what this thread was started as i have not hunted with cameron's before but have heard from guy that have and heard good things about them and they work there buts off to get you a bear.
As for the hole hound issue. We have a line of baits down one road we run our hounds of daily for at least the first two weeks of season. Two years ago on these same baits sat and shot a 285lbs boar at 6:45pm. We had run that bear two days before that. Knowing it was the same bear because of the white "v" as in the pics from the trail cam. Also one other time we started the hounds off of one of our baits and after the hounds lined the track out and were out of hearing one of my hunting partners walked back into the bait to rebait and there was already a bear back on the bait. Granted not a big bear 180 to 200 range but it had only been 40 min. since the hounds were turned lose.
I know others will disagree with me but i actually think that its more all the shooting and extra activity in the woods from bird hunters in the woods that slow down the bear activity than the dog hunters. In this part of the state there are just as many bird hunters if not more than bear hunters. And both open the same day.

i have hunted with the camerons before and they are great people. they care about the sport not just getting a bear for the money. when i hunted with them they would not allow a kill unless it was in the 200 pound range so it had to be an adult bear. i believe they went above what i expected of them when i went it was late in the season and most bears were hibernating or not moving much we didnt run anything on my three day hunt so they skipped another two days of work just to try and find a bear. we did tree a small one about 70 pounds it made the whole trip worth it if you go with them i dont think you will be unhappy unless you are only out to get a bear any bear. good luck and happy hunting

I'm saving points right now to hunt with them again someday.
Here's a link to my thread about hunting with Clarence and Kevin Cameron. Nothing but good things to say about my hunt with them. Regarding any hounds and baits concerns, I wouldn't worry about it because they had baits set up for us that were many miles from each other (a good thing!). If you had any concerns, just hunt a different area in the evening. My bro-in-law and I were hunting baits 10-15 miles apart most of the time.
Any ?s, feel free to send me a PM.
