I'm in the market for a new fish finder and frankly the selection and options are overwelming. Looking for some 1st hand experience and not the sales pitch for features I'll never use.
I mainly perch fish so resolution that picks fish from the bottom is important. In addition, I'd like to cover a fair amount of water quickly so a unit that tracks at a moderate speed would help. GPS isn't critcal but would be nice if it included contour maps for the greater lake area without the $100. price for the software. I currently use a hand held GPS. High end of my budget is around $400 but it has to be a nice unit at that price. Any recomondations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This is what I have. CUDA 250 S/Map Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter.
Basic unit which encludes a GPS for under 200 bucks. You can spend thousands if your budget allows but for perch fishing locations, bottom contours it works.

Gonna have a hard time at that price. My recommendation is to wait intill you can afford a nicer unit or get a flasher unit. Once you learn how to use one you'll be happy.

start shopping for a used one at that price range unless you don't mind greyscale viewing.

This is about the cheapest GPS/sonar out there...
