Well I happen to check out the ice conditions over last weekend and it just was not safe to me yet. I was told by some of my friends that they walked on it about 20 yards and it had 3" of ice on it. But when they walked out further that the ice was like 1" only. Is this weekend going to be better? I just don't know if it will be because of all this warm weather for Monday and Tuesday with a chance of rain tonight. I herd of guys fishing on Jordan and Gun Lake, but its just not worth a blugill to me. Well what did you do over last weekend and did you get out fishing around Barry Co. yet.

There is some good ice to be found. Fished the south bay of Gull lake Friday, got a few gills, ice was 4" or so. We moved to Campbell Lake in the afternoon and got some more at sundown. Ice there was about the same. Tried to get on Fish lake (barry county) Sunday, but that was a nogo. Went around Gun, some on the East Bay, not me, they are also fishing the channel at the State park and off the beach at the campground. Guys were on Hall Lake and the channel on Gun at Robbins bay. We fished Baker for a while and got a few gills then went to Sherman and did well on the gills in the afternoon.

Well sounds like you happen to do better than the guys I know. My friends went out at Jordan and did nothing. Also they went to Leach and Thornapple and did nothing there either. I sure hope this rain and warm weather will turn to colder weather fast.

Thanks for your info,

Rich

If ya don't mind what's your baked panfish recipe. I tried poaching some Perch Sunday and wasn't very happy with the results. My wife and I are trying to lose weight and that means no fried foods, but I'll gain another hundred pounds before I'll mess up another batch of Perch like I did Sunday. The ice conditions here in Allegan are spotty at best. Hopefully this thaw-freeze will improve things for next week.

Lay the fillets in a glass baking dish, season, cut up a few pats of butter and sprinkle some garlic on top. Bake in a 350 oven for about 10 minutes or until the fillets are white, don't overcook. You don't need much butter, but it really adds to the flavor. I do the same with walleye, it really lets the fishes delicate flavor come through and its not too bad fat wise. I have used white wine, (use a wine you would drink), and use less butter. Boiled gills are great as well, boil some salted water, toss in the gills and when the water comes back to boil, they are about done. Chill immediately, I have ice water standing by. Throw in the fridge or freezer until chilled through. Serve with cocktail sauce....Hopefully, this rain will not be too heavy and clean up the ice so it can freeze up good by the weekend. BTW, Pine Lake in Barry county was good Sunday as well.

I bake my bluegills to,

Take a baking pan out and spray it with pam.

Mix your fish in the flour.(I use FRY MAGIC)

Then I bake my gills at 350 for 15 min. on each side.

I am trying to loose some weight to and this is the way I fix my fish. Regular flour makes them tast bad, so I use flour called fry magic.
