Personally,I think the IST1384f is a tad noodlely[if that's even a word!].Lamiglas produces a factory rod X 106 MLC which could be custom tied as the XSH 126 2ML blank.Either one would have my vote as the best small water steelie rod.;)(unless G.Loomis came out with a 3 power 11' GLX,then all bets are off.)

I've snapped 8.8# break strength leader on hook-sets with my 11'3" 2 pwr GLX. I have to be careful with 6# fighting fish close and try to keep it into the tip section and not the butt section...

Just my observation...I do like the length for small water too!

That had to be one hell of a hookset....LOL

 Yeah, the first three fish I hooked on that rod I tried to blow it up. I broke them all off pulling on the rod hard and deemed it perfect for what I need it for;) Have put many fish on the bank with it now and still hasn't blown up after beating the living hell out of them and the others... just really have to watch it with little line out like I said.

How you been man?

As light as the GLX is,I can see now how you broke an 8# leader with a 2 power. How many skips and parr have you launched into orbit with it?:D I will say that MY fishing style would almost require a 3 power, but I could be wrong.;)

The IST1384F is my favorite medium river rod. Rogue, PM, ext....that said I felt like Axisgear, I hated the last six inches on the tip section, the taper did was wrong I guess or felt wrong. I messed around with guide spacing, ened up cutting 4 inches off the tip, and now it is perfect for me.

I'm not quite picking up what you are laying down man? Are you saying you like the weight of a heavier rod, that I do not know what I'm talking about, or you are the king of hook sets?

Thanks in advance for clearing that up! Being honest here.

as far as taking a lickin' and still tickin' gotta be the rainshadow(if you're goin custom). if you are looking for a factory rod though thats well priced, i would look at a lamiglas 12' med action. tons of power for the price. i'd steer clear of frontier though. they wont be around much longer, and believe me its a hastle to warranty a rod where the company is out of business

I was simply stating that the 2 power GLX is THAT light[compared to lesser graphite of similar power rating]. No,I'm not Bill Dance, but I have been known to set the hook with authority from time to time with parr attached.
The 3 power would be a better fit for me only because I don't limit my fishing to steelhead and trout in the Great Lakes watershed, that's all.
BTW.If you are breaking 3x tippet[8.5#] with a 2 power, you should seriously use some different leader. That's my opinion,I could be wrong.
