Just Completed Work On This Project. We Finally Saw Ice Yesterday And Today. It Is Constructed Of Thin Ply/ Luon, And 3/4 Foam Insulation. The Insulation Is Coverd With Vinyl. Is Is Designed To Slide In And Out Of A Pickup Truck. It Is Transported On The Ice Or In The Field Via A Dolly System That Has 10" Caster Wheels.

It Is Complete With Rod Holders, Drink Holders, Shelving Unit, And More. The "fishhunter" Is Fully Insulated With An Approximate "r Value" Of R-5. It Keeps The Cold Out And The Warmth In. We Only Have The Heater On For A Couple Minutes And Then Turn It Off. We Were Basically Fishing In T-shirts Today And The Heat Was Off.

I Was Thinking Of Posting The Building Materials, Design, Cost, Ect. On The Internet. I Was Hoping To Get Some Feedback On This Site To See If I Should Take The Time.

Please Let Me Know What You Think. I Couldn't Figure Out How To Upload Andy Pics Onto This Thread. A Couple Of Pics Are In My Album And More Are Too Follow.

Let Me Know, Thanks

Nice shanty, a couple of questions, how much did it cost to make? and is it fairly mobile?

Total Project Cost Is Approximately $600 Bucks. I Used Select Wood, Top Shelf Primer And Paint, And Stainless Steel Fasteners, Hinges And Handles. It Is Very Mobile. I Will Post Some More Pics Soon Of It On The Dolly In Transport.

Thank You For Posting My Pics...if You Wouldn't Mind Telling Me How You Did It That Would Be Great. I Clicked The Insert Image Icon On The Tool Bar But It Wanted Me To List A "url."

Thank You...

Is it an optical illusion or does it seem that it would be extremely tippy with the seats/wall being off set like that????? Just thinking about me setting on that seat ledge, being 235 lbs or so and then the entire thing tipping over...........lmao

Lol, It Is An Illusion. We Tested It With Three Adults (600 Lbs) To One Side. No Problem. The Footprint Is Very Wide Which Negates That Non Issue.

Kind of a big deal

seems like it would help to black out the inside for less glare off the holes, can you open the windows from the inside? other than that looks pretty cool, nice job

maybe you could place some rocks on the heater and take a sauna.

Lol, that is true. It does get like a sauna quickly with my Little Buddy heater. The only thing that's cold is reaching in the ice water for a minnow or down one of the holes that contain our "pops."

Pretty sweet looking. That would be perfect for fishing with the kids. How much does it weigh, and will the base fit in a Jet Sled? I would think the casters would work until you get an inch or two of snow.

Awesome shack! was that you out a Ginos last weekend? Saw a couple guys loading something that looked just like that. Didnt seem to be hard to get it in the truck with a couple guys at all. Probably alot easier places to get it on and off the water than Ginos i assume.

YEAH THAT WAS US AT GINOS. NOT GOING BACK UNTIL THEY SMOOTH OUT THE ENTRANCE TO THE LAKE. IT'S A COMPLETE JOKE THAT THEY CHARGE US TO USE THE WORST LOT/ ENTRANCE...

THANKS,

That is pretty sharp lookin'. I'm real curious about how you move it though. Casters on the ice/snow/dirt/parking lot doesn't seem very practical.

Just a thought, If it pulls that easy, one man can pull it, what are you going to do if the win comes up and you are on the ice with not much snow. I'm thinking something like a ice brake like the dog sleds used. Might want to give it a though before you end up sailing off in the wild blue yonder.

Looks great, but man thats gotta drag some wind going down the road? I also wondered about the cut out at the bottom causing it to be tippy. Its definately a different approach to shanty building, very unique. The only downfalls that I can see is you won't have any underneath storage because of your unique design. And its black, which means on warm sunny days, that thing is going to cause your shanty to sink into the ice. Just a thought. Very good job building it though. $600 is a lot of money for a wooden shanty, you didn't cut corners, and should have a good warm lodge for many years to come. Are you just fishing, or will you be spearing too?
