Just got back from Higgens. Took my seven year old daughter and she was amazing she fishes like she is 20 years old!! We started out late and ran into some adversity (got lost because of bad Rand Mcnally directions etc). Finally had to call Baracle bill of Higgens lake sport and tackle. He was a great help and got us set up on where to go. He hooked us up with minnows and waxies and gave us directions.
We headed out of the boat launch and headed north to a large group of fisherman. My daughter rode on a sled off the back of the quad and thought it was GREAT! (yeah I know we were VERY careful and slow:yikes:). Got set up in 30 fow and caught some perch right away (one 11incher and a couple of 7inchers). I thought to myself awesome were really gonna get into em.....we didn't. That was it and we moved after one hour and 6 lure changes . Out to deeper water. And man was it deep! Too deep for what I had spooled on our reels and we moved back in and slightly south in 25 fow. Caught a couple more 6 to 7 inchers which we threw back and then nothing. Left about 2pm after giving our fish to someone who had more (we only kept the two good ones).
For our first big quad trip of the year it was good! My daughter had a really excellent time and we worked out some kinks. We lost the gas cap off the power auger while drilling a hole. It went down the hole and sank and I was covered in gas. We had to use a zip lock bag and a rag to cover the open gas opening. Boy being covered in gas makes lighting a heater an unusual experience :tdo12:.
All in all it was a super grandfather son granddaughter trip!
