Thanks to a friend providing access to a private lake in Lapeer county I have been prospecting the lake all week. The ice on Monday was only 3 1/2" (now 4-6) which prevented fishing much of the lake. After almost no success through Wednesday in the usual spots we finally found the fish on Thursday. The fish, both specs and gills were suspended over the deepest holes. I found them by accident when lowering the camera. They were in 34' over 44'. Once I was set up the bite lasted for about two hours and was the best trip in a long while. I took home about 23 total gills and specs out of about 40 caught. My partner "Jaybe" also kept some for dinner. My point in telling this is that we spent way too much time looking in the wrong places when I was sure they were in deep water but didn't follow my instinct. At the insistance of "Jaybe" I will try to get the picture on when I learn how. This was the kind of day that makes ice fishing irresistable!
