What part of the lake were you at?

Fishing between the mainland and Georgina Island...down the road from the town of Virginia. Locals say the ice is sketchy, but we didn't find less than 5" or 6" anywhere.

looks like you had a good time! my husband and a group of guys are on their way home from simcoe- according to hubby they had a horrible weekend. all perch were small and they didn't really get into the fish. the house they rented was near pefferlaw, but i don't know where they ended up fishing. he also said there were a few people who pointed out some areas where the ice was only 3-4 inches. . . but he said they were getting through 11-13 inches in the areas they fished. glad to see you got your limit & some nice size fish!
enjoy the rest of winter!

I am going Friday. We did real well at Virgina Beach last year with the biggest @ 14.5 inches? 4 of us brought back just under 400 giant slobs what a great time!

nice mess of perch..never been there but always wanted to go. what is the average size you guys catch?

I would say the average size would be about 10 inches. there really weren't that many small ones to throw back. Sometimes we would get 4 or 5 12+ inch fish back to back. It was an awesome time. Long drive though...took about 5 hours on the way back from Simcoe to the Ambassador Bridge.

to lake Simcoe. what's the best baits for them through the ice? Minnows or waxies or jigs??? I've never been...but would love to go! What's the best time of year?
Thanks,

We didn't go with a guide, but my friend had been there a number of times before and knew some of the good areas to try. We stayed at the Sutton motel for $85.00/night, cost about 200+ for gas with a pickup pulling a trailer, and then $65 for a non resident annual fishing license.
We didn't have a GPS with us so we didn't get any coordinates...otherwise I am sure I would share

We fished mostly with jigs, but I tried waxies on a tear drop too and that worked. They were pretty finicky believe it or not while we were there. I know it doesn't look like it by the catch, but we both had vexilars and were able to see and tease the fish into biting.

I used a #2 orange rapala with a red jenson egg and did well.Just changed the jigging rythm at times once they came in just jigged it a few inches.Jenson eggs worked well on other hooks too and don;t haver to rebait.Always want an attractor down of some kind this helps lots and keep it just above the weeds.
