My brother just gave me a couple of ficious jigs, and I can't wait to try them out. I was just wondering what kind of knot everyone recomends for tying on these kind of jigs. I want to get the most action out of them. Thanks.

I use a polymer knot on most any lure, ice or soft water if the jig/lure will allow (eye diameter)

simple and strong...never lost a fish because of the knot

dont get me wrong love the palomar knot. but when i tie my ficious or similar jig i use the rapala knot allows the jig to move freely and havent had a problem with losing fish just a thought might wanna try. good luck

I second that, Loop knot will give the jig better movement this is what I use.
You can tie it with your eyes closed plus as my eye's are changing it makes it easier too... hard to see that small diameter lines...1& 2lb test.

polymar, and fishermans(rapala) knots both seem to work just fine. if tied right, both should have superior strength and useability. dont forget to moisten your line before sinching it with your fishermans knot if you werent already aware of this. I prefer the fishermans knot personally just out of habit, my partner is partial to the palamat. I cant recall a situation where one was better than the other, just personal preference

I use a uni-knot for everything ever since a steelhead/salmon river guide showed it to me about 10 years ago. He fishes for big fish on light line a few hundred days a year and says it has very good strength which I agree about. It is very easy to tie, even with cold hands because you string the tag end only a few times through a big loop. It is also a very small knot because you only wrap the tag end 3 time which makes it good for small ice jigs, small dry flies or whatever. I also like it for when I'm running leaders that you often re-tie things to because once you get used to it, it's really easy to control the length of the tag line. I use it on bigger stuff that doesn't need a lot of action and rapala for stuff that does. I could see how the rapala knot could be nice on ice jigs too. Never thought to try. Just might have to next time out. JMO.

The animation says wrap the tag end 5 times but I only do 3 and have never had a problem. After seeing that, I might consider 4 for bigger stuff but I haven't had a problem so far.

Out of curiosity, how many times do you put the tag end through the loop?

Ususlly 6 to 8 times. Overkill I know, but I like to make sure nothing fails due the the knot unraveling. I have no doubt that 3 times are fine, it's a great knot, and since you can yank in a tuna with one, I'm sure a walleye, or a salmon won't break it. I also make two loops going through swivels or split rings. Only one through stuff like ice jigs or anything not smooth. I am going to try the Rapala for the jigs. Looks like it will work better for the action.

Well, I went with the rapala knot and a chartruse ficious jig. I think that was the right choice in knots. My brother had the same jig and used a fishermans knot. And I out fished him at least 2 to 1. Thanks for all your input guys. And lets hope were left with some ice for this weekend.

I just started using the palomer last year after loosing amy a fish to the old cinch knot. You'll have the line break before this knot slips on you.
