Lightly in front of the dorsal and I don't usually clip them.
If they don't get a hit within a couple hours I'll put it back in the cooler and put on a fresh one. A dozen golden shiners aren't cheap and I
can keep them for quite awhile this way.

One hook just behind the head thru the back and the stinger back near the tail.

For me, it depends. If I'm jigging, I hook through the mouth but if I'm using a tip-up I'll hook through the back.

hook them in the back in font of the dorsal with a circle hook.
no other hook needed.

I hook a perch through the back. Look for the black spot located near center of the spiny dorsal. Can fish all day and still release the decoy at days end.

I tie my own quick strike rigs - I use a #8 treble tied in-line, and then a #4 single anywhere from 3-5" down from that. The treble is hooked lightly behind the dorsal, and the single goes in the upper lip. When the flag flies, you set the hook immediately and I NEVER get any gut hooked fish this way.

Through the back...when using tip-ups.

Usually right behind the dorsal fin. With a double hook rig I put the bottom hook in the lower lip, point down. On tip-ups for pike that is.
