Any body got a good (reasonable) insurance company? I have mine with AAA with two house and two cars and my premium went up by 33% this year. Agent claims there was a big boost in boats and motorcycles. 33% is kinda had to swallow. Hopin for some input.

Doug,
Try Wolverine Mutual in Dowagiac.
Their rates are reasonable. I was told, they do not cater to PWC's. (high rate of claims) Your boat may qualify.

Thanks for the info fella's. I talked to the agent and asked her if the increase is do to the fact I mostly use the boat on LSC. She said that was the most probable reason. Then I told her the truth that the boat is kept in and used only in Oscoda. She did't have much more to say. Bye, bye AAA.

Downstate: Are you saying they charge more if the boat is used on LSC or the other. I keep it in Salt river but I have a trailer. I use Boat US but always looking for a way to lower the price.

Icet.... I was leading the lady on and put the words in her mouth and she agreed. Come to find out she didn't have a clue. And for not having a clue I will go with someone else.

I've spent an awefull lot of time looking for insurance for everything the past couple of months. Your boat insurance will be cheapest from your homeowners insurance provider, assuming you have a good homeowners insurance provider. Horace Mann and Safeco were the two best insurers for my home and boat. I honestly don't know what their rates would've been without a homeowners policy. I ended up with Safeco, but if my Horace Mann agent was on her toes, she would've gotten my business. It is imperitive that you find an agent that you can trust. I could just about puke from the useless or overpriced quotes that I've gotten from insurance companies and various agents. My longtime agent (14 years) only sold Farmers, and they've gone to heck. When he drops Farmers and gets lined up with his new association, I'd recommend him to anyone.

If your prior service you could try USAA.

AAA has to support the countless number of V.P's they have added, since getting a new young hotshot President. He has to add to his stable of yes men(a women) to make him feel like he's running Microsoft or something.
Once again i'll say the T.B. deer crisis has much to do with AAA crying about car/deer accident claims. AAA is hurting do to mismanagement, bad investments, and insurance scams. 50% of all stolen car claims in Detroit is b.s., yet they would never be able to stop writing polcies in the city, Jennifer wouldn't let them.

Do just carry fire and theft in the winter??
A Buddy of mine carried full coverage all year.
He did it untill one day he was telling me how much he paid for insurance. That when I said I drop mine down to just fire and theft in the winter. Man was he Piss## paying all that extra coverage for nothing. They may tell you that they can't do it but they can. If your not using it you only need Fire and theft to cover it... Even if there is still a bank loan on it. I checked;)

I've been with State Farm since 1997 for my boat. They charge me $249 per year for my 22' Islander. I've check around locally and that is the cheapest rate I can find. I can tell you that I had a claim for wind damage to my soft top. They replaced the entire top (side curtains, visor and bimini) with no questions asked.

I'll have to check with BoatUS for a quote.
