What do you guys think the best public fishing lake in Jackson Co is?

I go to Crispell , Lime and Round lakes all of the time and never really do very good. I'm looking to find a new fishing spot.

what kind of fish you after. for jackson co the best gill lake i have found is portage . there is a lot of little ones. if you get into those move around there is some big ones in there. i spend most of my time on there. the dinks i do catch i try to keep just to remove the small ones. but i usualy catch 10 to 12 nice red ears. caught a 11 inch red ear last year thru the ice just west of the county launch.

Think about trying Wamplers, Round, Sand, Vineyard, and Clark Lakes. They all have good gills, crappie, and some perch to boot. Fish around the perimeter of the crowds, just a little deeper perhaps. Sometimes the fish get pushed out of areas like that, but only move a few yards, or feet. Drill a few hole around the periphery, and you may get a surprise. Capnhook I know, I know..... Sand isn't in Jackson Co.

Sand may not be in Jackson Co, but it kicks ass as an ice fishing lake!

Sand Lake is off US12, basically right across the road from Wamplers lake. The road you turn on to get to the public access site is Pentocost Highway.

If you are wanting to stay somewhat close to that same area there are 2 lakes that I frequent and always seem to do pretty well. They are Vandercook and Sharps Lake. Cranberry is also good but I hear it is polluted with extremely high levels of mercury. Whenever I have fished Round Lake out your way I never did to well either. I mean I could catch dinner but thats it. Never any limits
