You can get better use out of your latern of heater with a simple stand like this. Made from 1x2's & 1/4" wire mesh. Good for heating food, drying gloves, socks. I like to put my wax worms & spkies in the corners keeps'em wiggling good. Also from freezing on the shanty floor & from spilling in your pocketshttp://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/medium/lancrte0001.JPG

I hope the wood doesn't catch on fire,,. That is a good idea,, I like the idea of drying gloves and boot's(if need be) You could also roasts some hotdogs or brats on there. You just need some type of handle on the top,, maybe from one of your buckets.

If that is galvanized wire that you used when it gets hot it could give off toxic fumes.

made something similar...attached a tomato plant cage to the lantern using wire and large hose clamps and placed a disposable metal pie tin on the top for cooking and drying gloves (no socks though:corkysm55:lol:)

Good idea!

I wonder if something similar could be made using a 5 gal. bucket? Simply cut several holes into the side of the bucket with a hole saw to allow light/heat to disperse and then set whatever mesh you want on top of the bucket opening or cut the mesh to fit inside a cut-out bucket lid that would give it a frame to lock it in place. It would all depend on the melting point of the bucket but if that would work, you could stack the "coleman bucket" with your other bucket for easy carrying and the bucket has a built-in handle.

Of course you could end up with a "coleman shrinky dink" if not done correctly.

Warm food....not "cook" food...

LOL

I can only imagine the smokey mess you would have with brats up there....;)

What if you used a metal bucket? They don't weigh much more than plastic. Like the ones paint or deck stain comes in.:xzicon_sm

Don't think a bucket is tall enough. I took a bad angle shot. You can't tell that the wire mesh is about 10 inches above the top of the lantern. It's far enough away to not burn anything. The lantern crate also stops the ever popular fishing line burn off when the fish are biting.

I guess I was thinking of a way to solve the melting bucket issue that Passmeabrewski brought up rather the actual dimensions of the lantern. Now that I looked at the pic with that in mind, your right!
