The most popular spots that I know of are

-from the end of townline road (which is on the south side of the north basin or it is also the road on the border between lyon twp. and gerrish twp) toward the west to a line between the south end on the island and the mainland. there is a pretty wide rocky flats and a deeper channel between the island and the mainland.
or
-around the sunken island in the south basin. the sunken island is only 3-5 foot deep and rocky and drops off quickly.

in either area I would set up near the edge of deeper water. I dont know if anyone has there shantys out yet but I would recommend that you look for spearing shantys in those areas and try near them.

I havent speared in many years but just to give you a general idea....Higgins is what I would call a trophy pike lake. you probably wont see many but what you do see will be big. someone posted a 36" already this year and that is probably close to high average. something in the 20-30 pound range is possible if you get lucky. I would recommend that you stop in at the higgins lake sport shop near the silver dollar and talk to Bill (barnacle bill on here)he can probably give you some better directions and he also has spearing supplies. He also has some photos up to I think 30lbs to get you fired up!!!

heres the thread with that pike

Guys set up spearing shanties all along the dropoff edges. There might not be a lot of pike, but the ones that are there are huge. My uncle caught a 20# perch fishing in the fall of 2006. The guys I have talked to see a lot more suckers than pike. Good Luck, and if you remove your shanty please mark your spearing hole, there is a lot of traffic on the lake and an open hole is very dangerous.
