Bear opener is just around the corner now, is everyone getting excited yet? I didn't get a tag but I'm getting excited just the same knowing that the hunters coming up will have the time of their life. I love watching them with their serious looks all dressed in cameo, and the stories they tell about their hunt.

Anyway tell us what you guys do to prepare for your hunt. Do you use a guide or go after it yourself? Do you rifle, muzzle load, or bow hunt? Tree stand or ground blind? Bait, use dogs or stalk? If you bait how far in advance and what do you use? Do you use timers? No need to give all your secrets away but it is interesting to read about the differant styles in hunting bear. Good luck to all you lucky people who drew this year and those of you that didn't remember we got our very first preferance point. Born

Born,
My wife and I got tags, plus two friends, so I will be a bit busy with baits. I am using a bow others are using 30-06. I will be in a tree, others on ground. For bait I use dry dog food, pastries and grease. I am using the same stands as last year, looked the other day still sign in area also hunting in my back yard so have seen nice tracks. I haven't used a timer in the past but might borrow one this year.

Born,

Yes, both my wife and I are getting very excited about the upcoming bear season, especially since we have already had two sightings of bear.

We have our baiting locations picked out and a neighbor lined up to help us with the baiting starting August 22.

My wife will be using a rifle and I have not fully made up my mind on rather I will be using a rifle or my bow. If the bear activity at our bait looks good, then I am definitely leaning toward the bow.

Preparing for the hunt is almost as exciting as the hunt itself for me. I'll be hunting Baraga near Rockland (Ontonagon area). I've been diligently collecting doughnuts,,,,, Brought home another load after work last night. I've got the HOOKUP for free dougnuts (Leave it to a cop !! HaHa)........ A local Dunkin Dougnuts shop is giving me everything that they usually throw away at the end of the day. Can't wait for Sep. 25.

Big Bear I have to agree the preparation is almost exciting as the hunt itself. You get to see all the bear sign out there, looking at the tracks, imaging what bear is coming to the bait. Once and a while seeing yogi eating when you go to your bait station. And the just fact of being in the woods. Good luck in your hunt. Born
