Hit the Ausable with Riverboy last wed and thrs night and had an absolute blast casting mice, bass bugs and streamers in the dark.
The first spot that we tried to hit was a little crowded but we managed to pull 5 nice browns 17" being the biggest and 13" being the smallest. Riverboy nailed the 17 within 10 minutes of fishing. it was a good first night out. Had probably close to 20 hits all from decent fish.
The second night was a little slower to start but I hooked a large brown on a mouse in the first 1/2 hour but lost it quickly when it ran downriver. I was guessing the size to be around 17. Long story short..... we ended up at probably the 2nd most fished access site on the South Branch at 1;30 am. Made 3 casts with a bass bug. ended up with 2 hits and a 18 inch brown.
Overall the second night we ended up with 4 browns all ranging from 13" to 18".
Then there was Wakely Lake!!!But that's another story:)

Weezer/Riverboy,
We definitely ned to plan things better. I was on the SB on Thursday night - where I thought you guys would be. I didn't know the area as well so I took off at about 10:30 PM without any fish. Glad to hear you guys had a good time. Next time, I'd like to come with you guys!
Fished the main stream Friday AM and PM; a few hits, landed a few brookies but nothing large. Heard some guy pulled an 18" brown out of a bend by Gates' but I didn't even see any rising fish.

Hey WEEZER did ya have alittle trouble reeling in those gills at Wakely lake. Its funny how you can hook a gill and it turns into a bass in a matter of seconds. LOL

Keinbaumer, yes the trick to fishing that lake for bass is to cast to the gills. It was amazing! I'm going to tie up some patterns that resemble gills next time. I think it would work.
Brmara, We were on the river by 10:30 on thursday. Two guys were at the overlook watching us for a while...Was that you?
We waited around camp(canoe harbor) until about 8pm.

Weezer,
I think I ran into those guys on the way in to the parking lot. They unpacked their crap and grabbed some brews and headed back into the woods (probably to watch you guys). The guy told me there were two holes - one straight out and one if you followed a path to the right. I obviously ended up in the wrong hole (I hate when that happens).
You guys were probably upstream a few bends but I couldn't wade up (in the pitch dark) so I just bailed. Damn. I thought I recognized Scott's truck but it was dark and I couldn't be sure. We definitely have to try it again. Us old guys (31) can't pull stuff off like we used to!
I was with you guys in spirit.........

yep that was my truck! we were at the first hole from the access probably untill 11:30 or so than we worked up stream to where we got into fish the night before. Thats too bad we missed you. I thought we were to meet at the campground. Once again lack of communication. Ya Im thinking about hitting it at least one night this weekend fishing during the week wont happen for me this week. Let me know if you want to go so we can plan better!
Weezer
well whats your schedule looking like this week? Are you going to sneak up north or anything? Did you hit the chip yesterday?

Yeah I hit the CHip yesterday afternoon. Had an indredible # of hits on poppers until the wind picked up. Mostly small fish though .I was missing most of them. Then after the wind picked up I switched to streamers and started hooking them....Got an 18" smallie and lost another large smallie on zoo cougers.
As far as my schedule is concerned this week is booked with work. Weekend after this one I will be up onthe Ausable with my girlfriend and a few other people. I still plan on fishing probably below Mio (Epherons should be going). I seriously doubt I can swing a night trip but I may try to get up about 2 hours before dawn and hit that spot where I got the 18. all depends on the Epherons.....

I am heading up to the AuSable below Mio or below cummings flat for a float thursday and Friday night. Anyone else going up there or looking for someone to drink a beer with and tell fish stories. Also looking to hit the epherons and run streamers and mice after dark. Any reports or ideas will be welcome!!

I don't know if the whole mouse thing works on rivers that large. Everyone I have talked to hits smaller rivers. you may be better off running large madonna's and zoo cougers after dark.
