just picked up a new pin. saw that basspro has a browning rod that would fit my price range for now. i was looking at either the 13' or 15' but leaning toward the 13'. just looking for an opinion on backbone and thoughts on general performance of this rod.
thanks for the help.

I picked that rod up and played with it. it seemed pretty whippy and didnt have as much backbone as i like. My go-to rod is a 13 ft st croix avid at the moment. just got a shimano convergance 12.5 ft. it seems to do the trick and is a great rod for only around 60.00. Also in your pricerange is the okum aventa rod. I have a friend who fishes it and seems to like it. All in all, it is personal preference. I think the browning could handle steel, especially in tribs with slower water, but it is a little too whimpy for me. It might be hard to fight the currents of a bigger river.

I was just faced with the same decision about a week or two ago. the browning seemed to seriously lack the backbone that one would need to fish bigger water, and being 13ft it wouldn't be as suitable for fishing smaller walk-in streams. I went with the okuma aventa 13' and so far I am pleased with it. I did add some weight to the ass end of the rod to balance it out. the convergence is a sweet rod for smaller streams being that it's 12.5ft. you just gotta play around with them and decide which one suits the type of fishing you do the best.

I owned a aventa rod at one time and I have played with the browning rod. Both were limp noodles in my opinion. If thats your sort of thing, go for it, otherwise I would look at other rods.
