i have a cabin in bitely; but have never fished the area. assuming there will be ice mlk weekend i might take a ride up with some buddies and give it a try. i was wondering which of the many lakes around there might be worth giving a shot? i was thinking highbank, brookins, walk up, or nichols. feel free to shoot me an email. any info would be greatly appreciated. also where is a good place to get bait around there? this first place that comes to mind is kings on m-37.

I can't believe nobody fishes the Bitely area that can help you out. I'm sorry but I can't be of much help either. I fish that area once a year in the summer. Usually hit the river to fly fish. I can tell you this. My uncles cabin is on Bitely lake and we've never done any good on it in the summer. It would be the last place I would try. There is a small lake on the east side of town that we've caught nice gills on in the summer. That's the first place I would try. If you're not sure which lake I'm talking about, hit me with a p.m. and I'll try to help.

Parsley's in downtown Newaygo, right on M37 has bait and much more.
As far as the ice, it should be good by the weekend. We have been cold and freezing at night since last weekend.
Good luck!

My fishing experience in that area is limited.
However I would vote for woodland or possibly east lake.

Brookins, east and west lake are all interconnected. West lake for gills, east lake for perch. brookins straight out from the beach a hundred yards or so I've caught both and a couple walleye. School section west of bitely is sometimes good for gills or specs. I fish mostly lakes south and west of you but have been leary of the ice as I am a big big man. I'd like to know if you do any good though, I'm getting the itch and want to get back out there since all the rain. I've heard that they do well on bitely lk in the winter for gills but can't confirm it. PM me if you want to share any info.
thx, marty
