Fort Custer national gaurd base

Has anyone hunted out on the Fort Custer base? Is it worth the drive from Ann Arbor area or is it over hunted/under populated etc?

Also what do you have to do to get permission to hunt the base. The Turkey (and deer) guides only say that you have to get permission but do not say who to contact. Any ideas?

Any info would be apprecitated. There is a chance I may lose my turkey land to a land sale prior to or during the #234 hunt this year and I am trying to plan ahead.
