Group last night caught zero, they were catching a couple a night or more. Others said it slowed too.
This morning a guy went to both landings and could not get on, ice broken out 15 feet, guys with ramps had gotten on the ice that way. Some areas only have 6-8 inches of ice, but atv/snowm were out there. good luck.

We were out this morning and your right the fishing was slow, had 4 flags, all small northerns. The fish are there though we saw 10 eyes in the spear hole and 3 northerns. The ice is not broken 15' form shore it is only about 3 ' and we drove right on with a 4 wheeler with no ramps, after cold weather should not be a problem at all.We were in west bay.

You pike spearers should be aware that there is a fair number of northern muskies in Lake Margrethe. A DNR netting survey this past May showed muskies from 24" to 38". Make sure before you throw the spear. Muskies have to be 42" to legally spear.

Wish I could go... We've got a house full of guests coming up for tip up town and my wife and I are the hosts. The weather forecast looks to be windy on Sat. and cold on Sun. This may be the best weekend to spend with the family and save the following weekend for fishing. Let us know how things went this weekend on Lake Margrethe.

What are the best access points for this lake?
I'll be up next weekend and it looks like higgins smelting is likely not going to happen.

There is a state park on the North West side of the lake. I think it's called Macintyre Landing. You find a access sign off M72. Its the farthest West access point that runs off M72 on the North end of the lake and there is a sign for it on the main rd. Last year they never plowed the lot so 4wd was needed to get in during midseason.

I believe it's a federal. USFS or something. Not a state park. It wasn't plowed out last time I was up either (Dec. 07).

there is another way to get on the lake. the road that goes to the front gate at camp grayling. an just before the gate there is a road to the right that will take you close to the lake shore. there are also brown trout in the lake too, not a lot but they are there. it's too bad the camp isnt open to people anymore as there is a great boat launch on camp at the south end of the lake. but if one of the people in the group has a valid military ID you might just be able to get on that way an sign on the others that are with you. its been 3-4 years since i've been on camp grayling so it may have changed.

There was about 8" ice where we were fishing. Caught some tiny perch and lost a nice walleye at the ice. Wouldn't have been worth while if I didn't have the Aqua-Cam and a heater with us. We watched one nice eye circle my minnow for about 25 minutes. First time I'd been on the ice in years, and I can't wait to make it out again!

The best access is at the camp ground. It is a State Camp Ground. You do NOT need a permit to park there. Has been a lot of trafic two wheel drive can get to the access fine unless we get a big storm. has been slow use smaller blues for bait. I limited many nights this year. I caught 67 Walleye (1-to small) and 78 pike (only 8 keepers) to date. Time to fish a new lake for me.
New a place up north? I'm the man

The Walleye & Brown in my photo gallery are from Lake Maggy this year. So are the ones my daughter caught. I will add one more when I took my Daughter & Her Cousin's between Christmas and New Year.
The state park was a easy way in. walked out to the lake there is a lot of snow so walking took a little time. To say the conditions were a little tuff is an understatement. it put the shanty heater to the test. was able to put 2 nice eyes on the ice and lost two more. wind was brutal and as always the walk back it's always in your face. but hooked going back next weekend

So now that the weekend is over how did everyone do out there. I caught a dozen perch that I would call keepers with a couple being 12" long out from the boat landing on Sat. But I had to do alot of moving to get them. Most of the perch I caught I threw back they were to small.
