I just wanna go icefishing!

I am dying to get out on Sunday, but where to go. I know there isn't any ice in my neck of the woods, or so I've been told. But if I decide to drive up to Houghton, will I be able to get on safe ice. I wish we had ice down here because theres a couple of holes I want to hit. Anybody else plan on fishing somewhere Sunday?

you might want to make a phone call to a local bait shop before you start traveling around. Last i heard Houghton was opening up...

I was by the South shore of Houghton Lake yesterday and it had not broken away. There were still shantys out towards the middle. It did not get as warm up here as it did to the South. I have been fishing everyday since Tue. on some other lakes and have been on 8 to 10 inches of ice . The problem now is the rain that we got caused the water to run in the holes and I have seen what used to be 10 hole turned into 15 + holes and they are now covered with the snow we got last night so if you walk it to one of these it could ruin your day.

I know guys are on caddy and houghton... Just a little tricky in access to where you go out on the lake. But the last few nights have been cold enough it will freeze that shore up quick... Sunday would work out great. I will be out in Big Rapids sunday

My Dad was on Lymans website yesterday and they reported 6-8" of good ice. They said to be wary of larger auger holes that have opened up to about 15" holes from the rain. They also said theres no snow on the ice, its very slick, dont forget your creepers!

As far as the fishing, the they said the majority of all fish are being taken in 8'. Thats pannies, pike and walleye....Hope this helps.

I live 12 miles from the lake and we got snow last night so I think there would be a wet heavy snow on the ice. As far as what liemans tell you I will let you be the judge.
