I let my dog out this morning and he was acting weird so I walked out onto the deck and there were bear tracks and droppings on the steps. So I went walking around my property and found a nice track near my pond and another in the woods. The one on the deck was medium sized but the one at the pond was yogy sized. Looking good so far.

Yooper,
Maybe you can tell me what you think about the effectiveness of having my wife use her 20 guage rifled slug gun for her bear hunt this fall. Should we go with a solid slug or would a sabot hollow point 3" shell work OK.
I guess my real question is if the hollow point sabot will penetrate a bear properly or maybe expand to quickly to due a good job.

David,
I would think if the 20 works for deer it would be fine for bear, is she going to be in a tree stand(closer to bait) or further away?
I would go with the sabot, as long as it is placed well it should/will do the job.
Maybe post a topic, get others input.

Yooper,
Thanks for the feedback. Yes I will have her in tree close to the baiting area.
I think I will put a posting on the general page to see if anyone have had any experience with the performance of a hollow point sabot on bear.
Thanks,

Your 20 gauge with slugs will work just fine since your putting your wife in a tree stand up close to the bait.It should have all he knock down power you should need with that size of slug and being close to your target. If she hits it right the bear should not even move from where it is standing.
