Would appreciate any information about the ice at Wixom Lake. I'd like to get out there this weekend but don't want to make the trip if it not fishable. Thanks.

Did the water on Wixom clear up at all from earlier this week? Also, any reports?

I thought so. I have property on the river/smallwood lake north of there. I wonder if smallwood is any good for ice fishing? Secord LK is north of me, it may be ok, I've never fished there.

I lived on Wixom Lake for about 7yrs and my parents still live there. In that little cut where Nestor drain runs into.
Once that lake get's a big run off, it get's dirty and stay's dirty for quite some time. I believe it was last year, maybe the year before. But when we had the big melt, that lake stayed muddy forever. The only way for that lake to clear up, is the damn on the Chippewa River side.
The damn on the Tobacco side, is for flood purposes only, and I can't remember the last time that they opened that one. I'm not even sure if it's in operation mode anymore or not.
It can be a productive lake "IF" you can find the species that you are looking for. Everyone fishes in front of the DNR launch for the simple reason is that there are some shanties down there and it's deep. There are other spots on that lake that can/will/ produce the same if not better than in front of the boat launch.
Get away from the pack as on any other lake and explore. Take a GPS and mark any spots that you did good. Also, I believe there are maps of Wixom Lake. Get one and go.

Has anyone been out there today, Friday, 1/18? Interested in an ice report and would like to know if quads/sleds were out on ice. Thanks.

Hows the water? Dirty-clear? Has the dam end froze up yet. i was up there 3 weeks ago and there still was open water by the damn. The best specks seem to come down by the damn anymore.

Had a good fish fry with them friday. wanted to go this weekend but the whole - 20 wind chill dont sound too good. ill wait till monday and try it again.

nice job on the crappies. Anytime the waters been dirty for me and can't catch anything but i can't catch anything up there when the water is clean i guess. Did ya fish by the launch or somewhere else? I love going there for specks but just don't seem to have any luck anymore. Always mark fish just won't bite.
