Hey, I recentaly picked up a Shappell s3000 shanty and am looking to fix it up a little. I Already called shapell about a new cover for it which is looking to be around 90 but I am also missing the top pole for it. Now I'm pretty sure i can swing a piece of electrical conduit to do the job, but i'm looking for some of those little plastic fittings to go on the end of the conduit to hold it steady. They have an open C which would allow them to quickly connect and disconnect from the existing conduit.

Does anyone know where i might be able to find these?

Just rivet on a small nut (5/16) on both ends of the shanty. Cut a piece of conduit to fit. Put one end of the conduit on the nut and slide the other side on the nut.

I bought the new pole from shappell. They don't sell just one though. I now have three poles, it was a blessing. If your going to make one, make two. The extra one I run right in front of me. I use it to hold back the lid on the shanty where my holes are drilled. I have had trouble in the past when the wind is blowing, the canvas movement pushes the lid down on my poles. This will stop that and will make the shanty a little more rigid. I set up so the wind is at my back, but the change of wind or the suction in the shanty makes it a pain.

I built my own shanty based on that model. My center pole is 2 pieces 1/2" conduit connected by a conduit connector for easier assembly/storage. I made a concave profile on each end by drilling a hole and then cutting off half that hole. Heres a pic that might give you an idea of what I am babbling about.

I used the same method for mine.

How did you make your table?

The table top is 1/4" plywood with a piece of 1" x 1" molding around the edge to keep things from rolling off (shoe molding would work for this too). A small block of wood in the center with a hole drilled through it for stick the bottom end of the ski pole up through. The "table leg" is an upside down ski pole. I used a conduit bender to put a "jog" in it. I took the handle off (put that on my tow rope!) and drilled a hole in the plywood base on my shanty to stick the handle end into. I have some good detail pics I will post tonight when I get home. It was really easy to make, light weight, and very functional! I got a lot of use out of my wifes old down hill ski set. I have used both skis and one complete pole.

My shanty is currently sitting up in my garage so if there's anything else you want to see now is the time, I can get you pictures easily. I want to re-work that old plywood base using an idea from someone here. Anyone got an old truck bed liner they want to get rid of? It could be broken and I could probably still use it.

I like the table, do you think it could be mounted off of one of the support poles and not the ground? I always have so much ***** on the ground, I'm trying to get everything up and off the ground. I would also use the table to hold a vexilar or aqua vu. Also, my shanty has the plastic bottom not wood. With two guys in it, things get cramped.

I am sure you could mount that to a pole. In the inventions thread I believe Steve shows how he mounted a shelf to a shanty pole using PVC. I would do something like that, here is the post:

My pole is missing too??? HMMMM
I think I will use the conduit and stuff a wood dowl in one end and make the connection that way. Then just grind the ends to fit the frame on each side.
