Just moved to TC. Anyone know any good places to ice fish? Would like to find some walleye, but pike, perch, crappie, gills, doesnt matter.
Thanks

theres some guys on here from your erea that will chime in im sure, but I know long lake has some eyes in it.
If your looking for names, try Spider, pretty fun lake. Other than that, poke a hole in any of the many, many lakes and you won't be disappointed.

Right now, probably the only safe ice might be Little Glen and Skegemog for perch and panfish, but I'd be leary about the ice. I think they both had about 10" a few days ago, but probably half that now and I know the shorelines have rotted away.
Other perch lakes: Little and Big Glen, South Lake Leelanau, East and West Bay, Suttons Bay.
Walleyes: Long, South Lake Leelanau.
Bluegills and other panfish: Almost any of the smaller lakes in the area.
Trout: North Lake Leelanau, Big Glen , Crystal, Torch, Elk, Green., East and West Bay.
Smelt: Green, North Lake Leelanau, Crystal, Cedar.
That should get you started. When you get them fished out, let me know and I'll give you some more.

Only laes I have ice fished
perch: Little Glen, Long, and Crystal
walleye: Long
Saw a shanty on Herrendene (sp) today. Never fished it yet. That is bad because I only live 5min from the lake.

All the lakes bucko said are good lakes.
I'd add arbutus , across the street from spyder lake also for pans and perch.
I was out by skeg yesterday and there's no way your gettin me out on the ice for a few more days . I live on Birch and we had open water in spots all over the lake . Before it rained and got warm we had 12 inches of ice. I wouldnt put it over half that now and the top 6 inches were bubble filled as of monday with open water aroudn the edges also.
Birch has eyes, but the keepers are few and far between. The lake is way overpopulated by small eyes. I'm working with the DNR and biologists to instute a slot limit on the lake to thin down the population. There is not a lot of forage left . I think there is about 6 perch left too:lol:.
Like I said. I'd give it a extra coupla days to reharden the ice out there.
Good luck and stay safe.

Does anyone consistenly catch a good amount of "keeper" perch on Skegemog? There's seems to be plenty of perch in that lake but more often than not it's A LOT of sorting to get a meal.

Silver. A fishing/huntin buddie that saw me at work thismorning said outa 4 people they got 20 perch and could not finish the meal cause there was too much. They got some dandies a few days before the warm up. The day before the warmup he told me they were getting good numbers but not the huge sizes they got a few days prior. I trust what he tells me. but I'd definatly give it a few days before going back out there. Rember , there is a current in that lake.

Silver has some nice Walleye's in it as well. Not a lot of dinks like some of the other lakes mentioned, but when you find em, they are quality. I live on the lake and have fished it for about 8 years.
Don't foget Boardman lake in Downtown T.C. I have caught some dandy eyes in there and some jumbo's. Believe it or not, West GT Bay has good walleye in it! Another good walleye lake is Big Platte lake in Benzie county, with the chance of some perch, Lakers, Rainbows, Coho's, Kings, Browns etc.
What about the lake in Lake Ann that has walleye's Dave? Just a little east of town:)
I got one more sleeper, and I didn't even realize the smelt and perch opportunity, Duck. Monster grease in there also. Green has decent perch and awesome trout.

Buck,
Yes it sure was Little Glen.
Fish Michn,
I am going to guess your talking about Bellows Lake??? Never have drop any lines, access is a major problem.
You know with the few of us that are in this area ice fishing and posting. We should pick a lake like Little Glen and meet up and fish. Weekend mornings are best for me but if we where to pick a weekend my wife doesn't work I can do all day.
How about it guys???

With the growing number of MS members from NW Michigan it may be time to have a Meet n' Greet up in TC some evening.
Interest?

I would love to get together as well. I fished little glen in early December and got some decent ones, a nice rainbow bonus. But the bite tapered off for me and I couldn't really get them going. I haven't been back since before Christmas, have you been lately? Can't wait for Big Glenn, Crystal, Elk, and maybe, just maybe the bays. But we need a cold snap for that.
Oh, thought I would post this, last night, six guys were fishing to the south of Crescent shores. They used, 2 x 6's to plank accross the water to get on the ice. I was in my tennis shoes standing there as a guy struggled to walk out without creepers, one of the lads said, be careful, there are some bad spots out here, I thought, ya think?
I would be down with a gathering, on ice, while fishing. Any spare time I get away from work and honeydoos, that is what I will be doing.

Yeah Dave, Bellows is the one. Not a lot of walleye, but some big ones in there. Do you know Wendy Sak from the GTASFA? She lives right there in LA. Drop me an email, I would like to chat a little more with ya.

Definitely interested here. I live in Lake Ann like Dave.
Bellows has eyes in it? That's news to me, I've never caught one there. Not that I catch many anywhere!
Have you guys checked out Armstrong Lake just a bit nw of Lake Ann? Its a tiny lake but I've seen sizable eyes and pike taken out of there. Again, access can be an issue in winter, but have snowshoes, will travel!

I'm retired (and thank you for your Social Security contributions....) so time is a welcome luxury. I usually go to bed, but during the night get up to hit the head and many times I'll get on the 'net for an hour or so. You'll see many posts from me at those early morning hours.
I'm in Manistee County and my buddy Dann09/George lives north of me outside Elberta. I know there are other TC area members who would be interested in a Meet n' Greet.
Stelmon put one together a few years ago at La Seniorita on Garfield Ave. and it was great fun with about 15 MS members showing up. Let's see what we can put together for later this month or February.
I am by LA too. Must be the West Siders like to fish it up.

That's why I'm a west-sider! Can't turn around out here without seeing a little lake or stream to fish. I love that the platte is 5 minutes from me and on the way I pass 3 or 4 small lakes what I can toss a line into from shore.

I know there are more including a couple of guys from the Mesick area whose member names escape me.
If there's enough interest we can put together a Meet n' Grreet some evening when you working class guys are done with the job for the day.
If anyone thinks of another TC area member put their name in a post in this thread. I'll compile a list and we'll see what we can do.
Begin to think of a place where we can meet, greet, eat, and have a beverage or two. Someplace where we could be off in another room would be great. LaSeniorita on Garfield Ave. did that for us a few years ago as I had mentioned.

Believe it or not, but Giovanni's in Interlochen is quite tasteful now adays. They have a sweet back room, and Bar! That's all I need. And since I am a West Sider also, how about staying out of the city? Just a thought, but draft beer is a must. Plus they have cable TV. Oh yeah, I love winter.
Do you think La Senorita would deliver chips and salsa to Giovanni's?

About 22 years ago I was dating a girl whose parents owned a house on Spider lake. I fished the lake quite a bit. I had a blast, it had everything and the fish were pretty decent too. I would cast a blue and silver cleo and catch large pike and bass too. The gills were pretty nice. I would like to give the lake a try again through the ice.

That might not be a bad idea.
As for bringing a girlfriend that would be up to the individual. I don't think my wife would like it if I brought one along, but then ya never know..........
Ignore that Eyes Guy from Leroy. He's a mischevous sort, right Craig !!?? ............
A fishing event would work as well. A lake having panfish and pike so tipups could be productive would work.

Whit,
Sounds like a great idea. All I need is a cold beer and I am in. Pick a date and time.
Westsider kind of came out of the wood work. No place better. I live on the Platte River, Lake Ann is about 3 city blocks from my house.
As far as a fishing deal I am in as well. I have been working in East Jordan 2 days this week ice not all that great up that way. Also worked towards Glen Lake this week just couldn't find a away home and go pass the lake. Work truck has GPS.
Dave
I am in. Except for next weekend. Fishing outing is good with me. I could meet for a soda too. Doesn't matter, I like soda and fishing, sometimes I like both at the same time (except when in Canada).

I'd be up to meet in TC. Heading south in early Feb, so it would depend on the date.
La Senorita would be good. City Limits has a room for 15 - 20 or so. Cottage Cafe has room also. They have a bar, but not sure if they serve in the restaurant.

Count me in for an ice fishing outing or Meet 'n Greet. Better yet, a combination of the two. Being retired, anytime is fine for me.

The new names are added to the list. Being a mod on the site I can edit posts at any time. Most of the time outings and Greet n' Meets are publicized in the Outings Forum. For now I'm just going to keep this thread here as anything with T.C. mentioned in a thread title gets the members in the area's attention like a buck to a red hot doe....at least for you younger lads.......
You guys in the immediate TC area could scout out some spots for a Greet n' Meet. A place with decent food, beverages, and a room off to the side where we could get away from the normal (and I do mean "normal") customers would be best. Talk to the owner/manager and see what they can do for us. As you see the numbers keep growing so use that as a guide for the room size we'd need. Report back in this thread what you find out.
I'll start a new thread in the Outings Forum so look for it and put any comments, suggestions that you have in that forum. I'll close this one down so everything new goes into the new thread. It is best to put these kinds of threads in the Outings Forum so this one (and others) can stay on topic.
Begin to think about an ice fishing lake where we could fish in the same area. Icefishing outings, starting with breakfast someplace are great fun. A lake with panfish and northerns would be good.
I saw someone mention a Thursday or Friday for a Greet n' Meet. Like Bucktail Butch (who I've met and fished with a couple of times) I'm retired so time is easy, but what about you other guys and gals (?) what day(s) would be best for you?
