$65.77. Burn $30 in gas or let Lakeside make 10 bucks?:dizzy:

Which is what I did. They cannot be making any money at it, though. There is the exchange rate, gas costs, bridge/tunnel fees, and the wages paid to employees to handle all of this.

Plus, I figure it is just another way to support a local shop like many of us talk about doing.

Call by phone, it's easy & cheapest way, with a credit card. Takes about a week if you call in January. Wait till April, it will take longer.:fish:

Somehow, going to the fairy just above Russel to see about a license seems humorous;). Of course we all know that you meant to use the word "ferry".

BTW, some guys who went to Canada to get their non-resident fishing license said that they were charged an exchange rate of 10% at the bait store if they used US money.

The Wapole Island Ferry does NOT sell licenses. (one near Russel Isl)

ONLY the Marine City/Sombra Ferry. Nice road trip there, grab a soda/beer and burger at Gords'...and walk on the ferry to buy. (no charge to walk on).. Bonus, free boat ride in January while you get your license.

Also, usually some really great looking waterfowl hangin out this time of year to watch.

Question for those who ordered their Canadian license over the phone and used a credit card.

Did the credit card company add a surcharge for the exchange rate?

roger23
01-25-2008, 08:07 AM
I did not order a licence but other things I have purchased in Canada the credit card charged the going rate for that purchase on that day it seems that the credit card companies get a better rate than you get if you pay cash

Maybe it was due to the exchange rate...

I believe mine was 67.44....probably just depends on the exchange rates for the day processed! But I did beat you by .92 :D:lol:

alex-v

I was told that not only is there an exchange rate but if using the credit card then the creditor tacks on a surcharge for processing the exchange rate. Don't know if that is true but we were discussing Ontario licenses yesterday and one of the guys mentioned that as part of his theory of the costs.

Houghton laker
01-29-2008, 05:14 AM
well.....for that small of a sur-charge....I' wouldn't worry about it much!.....heck...I probably drop more change pulling my keys out of my pocket than what they charged!

Ouch!! Here's my story,,, I just went over to Mitchell's Bay and got a license at the baitshop there......... $73 bucks(US dollars):tdo12:. They don't take CC's either, cash only. The guy was pretty funny though,,, when he told me the price,, I said, wow did the prices go up or something?? He says,, "yeah,, that and your dollar is worthless", So,,, what I surmize is,, if you wanna save a few bucks and can wait,, do it over the phone or internet.

alex-v
01-31-2008, 08:31 AM
But if the exchange rate continues to go up it will also cost more when using the credit card.

Yesterday I heard of a guy who ended up paying close to $78 for his Canadian license. This was just a rumor but it is following the trend of reports claiming that the exchange rate is constantly pushing the price up higher and higher.

(there is that old song where they sing "..higher and higher..." and maybe it could become the theme song for Canadian licenses.)
