I ice fished Island Lake last week. I caught 5-6 gills, but others accross the lake said they picked up a couple walleye. I never knew or heard that Walleye were in the lake. Anybody that knows anything about this lake, did the DNR or local lake association start planting Walleye in this lake? If so, does anybody know when? I've always enjoyed the bluegill fishing in this lake, but wouldnt' mind picking up a few walleye.

Where does the Huron River run into Island Lake? I must be blind, but I don't recall the river running into Island lake.

I believe the original poster has Kent Lake (Across I-96 from Kensington) confused with Island Lake which is not connected to the Huron River.;)

Kent is the lake on the south of the freeway. Island Lake is in the back of the park (Island Lake Rec). There are a very small amount of eyes in Island Lake.

Kind of a big deal

The DNR does plant walleye in Island Lake, first plant was of 7445 fish that were 2.032 inches long in 2002. than they increased to 17,000 fish in 03. and carried on til 06... planted fish that were over 5 inches long in 05, which would help survival rate.... all info can be found on the dnr website.... hope this helps

Yes I admit My mistake,
I thought you were going for the part of kent lake that is on the other side of kensington metro park in island state rec. some people get the two lakes confused... kent and island lake.... with the state park island lake rec area...:dizzy:
but still the huron chain has a good population of eye's...

The lake right off of the freeway in Island Lake recreation area actually connects to Kensington Lake under the freeway. Both of these lakes which are actually connected are part of the Huron River. My sister lost a nice walleye a couple years ago in Kensington and I've had them charge perch underneath my hole in shallow water oddly before. They are in there. However, I haven't fished in there in a few years. I'll have to try it again soon.:) First things first though. Lake St Clair Saturday.:D
