Anybody ever float on the soft water and jig for winter panfish? I'm thinking of putting my kayak in and giving it a whirl. I'm wondering if I could anchor and be able to see my jig on the sonar? At worst, I could at least scout out fishing spots via the graph and mark them on the GPS for when the ice comes back.

I have a friend that does it with a small jonboat. As long as it doesn't get to windy/wavy he even uses his vex. I'd give it a try its better than sitting around and wating.
You could try it in a Kayak but you run in to some safety concerns in water hovering around freezing. I'm doubting that will stop you, or most of the people on this site, though. My GUESS is that it would be a little tough with a vex. For example, the bottom coverage at 20' with a 12-degree ducer is 4.3'. You'd have to keep your "yak" pretty steady to keep your jig in there but it could work.
