There were still soem shacks out on Tuesday. The weather has started to get better here this morning. Had 28 degrees and very windy in Newberry early. Should be great ice by the weekend. There was lots of water on it for a while, but even then there was 6+ inches of solid ice. That was on the big lake and I have heard that the ice is a little better on the south lake. Bring some cleats, it may be glare ice, they aren't talking about much snow.

Theres one of the bays south of Chamberlins Restaurant that has some sort of stream or flow that comes out of it. The ice was little wet and scary last year. If you ask some locals up there, I am sure they know what I am talking about. Theres a point between that bay and Chamberlins that we did good for the eyes. There is also the island at the south that you will see shanties all around it. We will be going up mid Feb. for the ice festival. Hope to hear your report.

Pardon me for hijacking this thread but does anyone know of any motels/resorts that are on either lake that are open this time of the year? I stayed at Shermans during deer season but he told me he was closing just after x'mas and going to Florida for the winter......so he's out.......

Anyone know of any?

Thanks......

Well the ice was great no problem with sleds or quads. got about 10 inches of snow while we were up there. Fishing was ok. We finally found some fish on Saturday that were keepers. One 19 eye and 9 9"+ pearch. Lots of small fish and one small pike. Fished all over the big lake. Best spot was in 8 foot of water were staight out from gull island. Good luck sorry for no pics.:):)

3 keeper eyes and seven 10-12" perch between 6 guys last night. Broke a couple lince on eyes, would have made for a nice catch.

Going up on Friday after school. Gonna stay at the Pine Bluff resort. Hopefully we'll get some eyes on the big lake and some of those jumbo perch on the north lake.

Check out Pine Bluff / Cedar Ridge www.pinebluffresort.com.

We stayed in one of their new units over New Years (it was the Cedar Ridge side). They just opened their indoor pool and hot tub. There was nothing like coming back from ice fishing and sitting in the hot tub with a beer.

We did decent on the fishing. We fished the big Lake and also the South lake. We did about the same on each. Two of us managed a couple of eater size walleyes every trip out. Plenty of small Northerns and big perch to keep us busy as well.

Do check out Pine Bluff / Cedar Ridge! I was very surprised at how nice it was. They will sleep up to 8 or 10 people per unit.

Made the trip over to the south lake after class on Monday. My brother and I fished the last 2 hrs of light and managed these 3 walleyes and a couple small pike. All fish were on tip ups in about 10 FOW. We also had a few more that either got away or snapped the line so overall it was a pretty eventful night.

Fished with WOODY63 last night. He's been up 3 days and had trouble getting into any eyes on the big lake. His crew has had one nice feed of perch though. Between his crew and mine last night got 5 eyes with 8 guys. All on tip-ups and right at/after dark. Caught the last fish at 6:55. Left shrtly after that. Biggest fish 21", smallest 18". No perch last night which cut into the action a little. Lots of ice, a little slush near shore. Might be driving out next week after this cold snap. Overall, last night was a pretty standard catch so far this year. Must be good enough, we keep going back. btw, if you come up keep your ducks in a row. Been checked 2 of the last 3 times on the ice.

Woody wanted me to inform everone that the Tally-Ho is still there and they still have cold beer.:coolgleam

Good to hear that Tally Ho still has cold ones. Any reports on ice thickness and/or the amount of snow on the ice? Still thinking about trailering up the RHINO for transportation but wont if theres alot of snow on the ice. Hows the eyes and perch biter an the Lil Lake? Will be BBQ'ing backstraps and the beverages will be floating at the Manilak Resort soon. Dont be scared to stop by.:)

We ended up canceling our trip this weekend. Not so much for the cold but more for the road conditions and the duel storms that were sweeping through. We didn't want to have the wife & kids on the road Saturday morning...heading up to Curtis.

We've rescheduled for the last weekend in February. I'll post an updated report then...hopefully with pictures!

Went up for a go of it. Colder than a well-diggers clavicle!!

Cut our mobility with the sub-zero temps and winds making the wind chill in the minus 30-ish range. Managed four walleyes on Sat, small pike on Sunday, but didn't hit it too hard. Pic is an eye after a minute or two on the ice. Pretty much a spear.

Woody, where'd you guys end up fishing at? Heard this past weekend there was about a foot of snow on the ice. Not good for the Rhino. Good for the sleds and not spooking the fish.

Friday when I fished with woody there was at least a foot of snow on teh big lake. Pretty slushy for the first few hundred yards. Since then, it has been below zero every night so I'm sure the slush is gone, but we've got another foot of snow. I haven't been since Friday or heard any reports.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Luce County Park is plowed down to the lake? Is there any other access spots on the south end? I'm heading over on Saturday, just curious.

UP POWER

Not plowed to the lake, but there is a parking area at the top of the hill. Usually quite a few guys use that spot for access.
