I wouldn't worry too much about losing the ice on inland lakes. Last night I was on 8 inches of solid/slippery ice in 25' of water on a public lake in LC.
The shoreline is a bit of a mess but should be fine by the weekend.
Lake St. Claire however is a hole nother story. I will probably save my gas money and wait three weeks before I head that way. Too many people fishing small sections of ice usually results in poor fishing for me.
If you were on good ice early it should hold up thru the warm spell.IMO
Spud, spikes and caution are your best bet.:chillin:

what lake were you on. i drove by chemung, thompson, and woodland yesterday and all had someone out there fishing. i even stopped by the boat launch at thompson to check the ice, it was still very thick even by the shore. im keeping my fingures crossed

Yes, one of those. LOL
I have yet to catch a fish on a drive-by, let alone check ice thickness.
The fact that they all had someone fishing on them could be a good indication though.:evilsmile

ah.... very encouraging news. I needed that! Thanks.
Driving by the lake this morning, I noticed there was still ice under all that water, but it was still dark out, so I did not have a chance to see the whole lake.
Heres to that cold front getting an extra speedy push from the ice gods.

fingures  what the heck, was i canadian yesterday?!?
stopped by the boat launch at chemung this afternoon. ice is out about 2-3 feet from shore, just enough to let me stab it a few times with the spud. its around 1-2 inches thick were i can reach. i wouldnt be surprised that if you put out a couple boards to walk on you could get out to safe ice. i wont be the one trying though :yikes:
