Is anyone going to give their bow a try this year on some bruins. I've not shot my enough to think about it but would like to hear if anyone else is.

Definitely going to hunt with my bow. I might even use the bow during the first season in Red Oak, even though it is open for rifles.
It seems like a more sporting thing to use the bow, especially since I will be hunting over bait.

David where about in Jackson do you live? I live just about a mile and a half from the lake and Hankerd Hill golf course.

I will using my bow in the beginning of my hunt but will switch to rifle near the end of season if I haven't filled my tag. My last tag I tried using my bow, bear never presented a shot I like so the last week I used my rifle. Didn't want to waste a tag. I agree with trout, just because you are using bait doesn't make it easier or less sporting.

Trout:
Thanks for the correction to my earlier posting regarding my use of the word "sporting".
Now, that I have had a little time to think about what I was trying to say, I should have said that I just down right enjoy hunting with a bow. Probably due to the physical aspects of using my own muscle power to send my arrow to its mark.
Besides, my experience with hunting deer leads me to believe, that under at the range associated with a baiting setup,I can expect my bow to be as effective in harvesting a bear as my rifle. In addition, as a bonus to me, my bow makes a lot less noise than my 30-06. I like the idea of maintaining the tranquility of the woods.
As always, the real trick is to move slow and waiting for the right moment to draw the bow. This problem is definitely minimized by using a rifle, but for me at least, I favor my bow over my 30-06 in particular type of hunt.

I'll be hunting in the Baldwin BMU over bait. I'll be in a tree stand using a 55# Martin BushMaster Long Bow, with Beeman Carbon arrows, and Thunderhead 85 broadheads. This set-up has killed a 300# plus wild pig, so I'm confident going after a bear with it.

Jumpshootin', I was just in your neighborhood last week fishing. See the fishing report from Long Lake on our main page.

I just happened across this website today, and am finding it interesting. I have a couple of neighbors that fish Long Lake & Green Lake nearly on a daily basis year 'round. For a long time Long Lake produced alot of 'Smalleyes'. But last year it started to produce keepers with regularity. I fish there on real hot summer nights for pike and muskie. We troll around the islands with big, jointed Rapalas.
I spend most of my time around here being out in the woods hunting or training my dogs.

It seems like every year there are more and more people using bows for hunting bear this year i have never had to guide so many as years past that are prefering to use bow over rifle.Bow hunting for bear is the harder of the two for taking bear because of the closeness you have to be for making a good clean shot.My self i prefer the rifle that way i can get back away from my bait and not have to worry about spooking a trophy that i should f had instead of seen.Everyone has a different way of thinking so i guess to each there own.
I'm going to give my bow a try this year. I was wondering where I should aim? Just behind the front shoulder like a deer? Just above the front leg? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
