Biggest bear to date

What is everone's largest bear to date, mine is the 180 to 200 pounder I got last year. Also what is the largest you personally have seen taken?

My biggest bear is about 225 and my wives is about 325, a DNR officer tag them for us and gave rough estimate, we butchered right away so couldn't bring to a scale. Looking for Mr Big this year but I am told the smaller ones taste better so I will fill my tag with something.

This fall will be our first bear hunt, so if we are fortunate enough to score, I will have something to weigh.

I would think that field dressing the bear would be better for the meat and also make the transportation easier. I would imagine however that there must be some way to estimate the live weight. Any ideas?

In the book Hunting Trophy Black Bear by Richard P. Smith on page 24 he has a chart. Here are some of the measurements
Chest girth 35" 161lb 40" 225lb 45" 300lb 50in 385lb.

My biggest is 211 dressed weight that is bigger than average so i can not complain.I have seen bear in the 450 to a little over 500lb class that hunters have killed in this area.

Hi; My Name is Chris Thomas. This is my first time visiting this site.

I started bear hunting in 1995. I have been on several trips to Ontario, which produced one small boar for me. I went to Alberta in 1998, and was fortunate enough to harvest a huge Boone & Crockett bruiser that went 21 2/16". I don't know how much he weighed,,, but according to Smith's chart, he would go over 500 lbs. He was 5 feet even around the chest.

I have hunted for several years in a row up near Ontonagon in the Baraga unit. I drew a tag for the last hunt there for this year,,, and am looking forward to going again.
