Today while looking at timber and scouting for sign I just happen to look down a old grassy road and seen a very respectable bear.I would have to say that the bear would weigh bewtween 350 to 400lbs.Can you imagine what that bear will weigh this fall. That was the only sign I had seen today. But it was the best kind.

My wife took the dog for a walk yesterday, saw a very respectable bear(300) walking down a trail, the dog barked at it and the bear started walking toward them. A car came and it ran off into the woods, I walked around that area and found large piles of dung. Good sign just need a tag.

Sounds like the bruin is living in the area.Good luck in getting your tag and hope you get your chance at that bear.

One more day to wait for the news.
My wife and I took a walk this weekend in a promising area. We were seeing a lot of deer and fawn tracks crossing the two track. I commented to my wife that we should see some bear tracks. Sure enough it was not much farther and I found a good fresh bear track. The palm of my hand measured nearly the same as the bear track in width.
Can anyone give me a rule of thumb for estimating the size of a bear from the width of its track?

All depend on the size of your hand its best to measure the width of the track.A friend of mine shot a bear 3 years ago that measured 5 1/4 inches across 2 years ago and the weight on that bear was 365 lbs.Last year we killed bear with 5 inch pads and the weight on that bear was 201 dressed so i thin they are just like humans some have bigger feet than others. When you get close to 6 inches then you have found yogy.
