I thought last year was a good time. We had good participation and great payouts (IMHO) for a small tourney. This year i would like to have a set # of lakes to fish and set a rotation... so everyone knows where to go!
I would like to pick 5 lakes:
1. Big Whitefish
2. Little Whitefish
3. Bass Lake (NE Kent co)
4.?
5.?
4&5 are open for debate... a few options
Big Pine Island
Townline
Tamarack
Brooks
Murray
wabasis
lincoln

Good suggestions Justin , I may be looking to ride in back some of the dates - I still gotta pick a few KrustY buX back out of MikeY's pocket.... and between You & Brandon....
I guess I'd better go practice now....

BPI for sure. Think we should give Camp Lake another try??? LOL!!!
Don't go to Wabasis unless you just want to give me your money at the ramp before we take off!! LOL!!! Might be fun to fish that lake against a different bunch of guys though.

not a prob ras. A set schedule will give everyone a chance to get all their "ringer" partners settled up before the season starts:lol:
Nothing against camp, there are lots of bass in that lake. When me and kush pulled up onto the flat we started at, we saw 2 4lb+ fish spook out into deep water... and then proceeded to catch a bunch of 10" fish.... only issue there is parking i guess.
And yes, i specifically left wabasis off the list... it would be ok for maybe a tourney in June, but the GM wed nighter just punishes that lake week in and week out and i think it really hurts the fishing there. Heck i put lincoln on the list before i did wabasis! lol.

See... now I would rather fish Wabs than Lincoln... I can actually catch a few fish on Wabs most nights but don't do well on Lincoln... but like you said it would have to be early in the season before it get's pounded.
No Reeds? :D

ok here it is. We'll fish these lakes in this order starting the first monday on the season and will keep looping until end of the season.
1. Big Whitefish
2. Bass Lake (NE Kent co. )
3. Little Whitefish
4. Big Pine Island
5. Tamarack (Lakeview)
I'm also toying with something like a 'fun' classic.
You will have to fish all 5 lakes at least once - exception being you can fish 4 lakes and one of them twice as long as the one you don't fish is tamarack since it can be hard to get to after work.
I would like to do the classic on lake Templene on a weekend. Templene is a private lake and is an awesome fishery. Mark Zona lives on it if that tells you anything :). Only thing is that it is between sturgis and kalamazoo so it would be a weekend event. If thats too far we can always do it around here too.

Jim, I think thedude has access to a better launch. Correct me if I'm wrong Dude.
So we're starting on June 2. I'd assume we'll skip Labor Day right? Fish thru what date do you think? Don't want to hit templene too late in the season.

nothing against hardy, i actually like fishing some areas of that lake. On the other hand, not everyone who fishes this league has a boat that would be particularly safe on big or busy waters like hardy & croton when the big boats are running or the wind blows up.... i got caught out on the freek in 3'ers w/ my 14' boat once for instance and some guys fish smaller rigs than that. Also.. a couple of us could run dam to dam on hardy or croton in a reasonable amount of time and others can't... its only a 3-4hr tourney and i'd like to keep the waters accessible to anyone who wants to fish. The wed nighter on wabs gets 40-50 boats because of this reason.
All the lakes on the schedule have plenty of room for 10 boats to fish and not be on top of each other.. Besides, if i'm fishing 1k+ acres i'd like a littl more than a few hours after work to pick it apart. :)

Dude, my ONLY point is that many of the guys who fished the Monday nighters this past year don't get out of work till 4 or 5 o'clock. Getting home, hooked up, and on the road to a lake more than an hour away just isn't practical for MOST of the guys.
And you choose to drive that long commute ever day. I for one like the lakes Justin selected. All fish fairly well, all have produced good sacks in tournies we've fished at these lakes, and all are less than an hour from GR. I'm looking forward to the season with great anticipation. :D

IF I could get a job close to home making even $3/hr less I'd entertain it.
:)
I didn't say I didn't understand any of the reasoning behind some of the choices , but that doesn't mean I can't disagree with it.
Both you & Justin know Hardy & Croton harbor some dandy fish (all species too) and Kent county's largest body of water gets THRASHED every WEDs.
Reeds has HORRID parking but there's some bigazz greenies in there.
BPI isn't far from WORK so I'll probably be riding sh0tgun with Brandon or Justin - lookin' to get a lil of MikeY's money.

Cracks at most of the major welds, from the torture-test in Canada last year. Storm blew in FAST, I was 10 miles (at least) from camp, waves 3-4 ft, & the sea nymph has A FLAT (almost) BOTTOM. I might actually be able to make the Monday nighters this year.
I just dont know what the boys baseball schedule is going to be??
Nor my work situation for that matter.
Put me down for interested and willing, just not so sure about able.
And just what is wrong with a pull cord motor that is older than me??? OK a pull cord motor with one speed. The boat is older than me now that I think about that.
I am planning on doing an EZ Eric number on the boat this spring, so ya'll watch your shnizits. :p

Maybe you should invest in a motor that's perhaps.... half your age maybe? LOL!!!!
swamptromper

Invest???? Define:
I acquired ownership of this floatation device for FREE... Well....small story involved. I was working on a house a few years ago (Which puts me outside of the limits for "best purchase in 2007 thread") Every day during my course of working this older guy who lived next door. Would strike up a conversation with me. Usually braggin about his golf score...anyway. Being brought up proper and all, respecting elders and such. During the time that I was working on my customers house/project this old man and I developed a respectable friendship. Time to shorten the story eh...I noticed he had a boat and trailer behind his garage overgrown with weeds. I talked to him about fishing... said he never goes out anymore. I asked him how much he wanted for the boat. He said I could have it. Not being a person that will take advantage of a lopsided deal I kept offering him money for both.
He refused...violently I may add. One day he asked me when I would be done with his neighbors house. Told him, that last day on the job he presented me with a bill of sale for boat and trailer. Said if I could get the thing out from behind his garage it was mine. I spent an entire Sat and Sunday cleaning his yard and mowing/landscaping. Most of it was needed just to get the boat and trailer out :D
After working on his property I told him I would get the boat ready and take him out fishing anyway. He was in tears...I guess he liked the work I did on his property??? Swung by about a month later to take him out... his wife came out, said he passed two weeks ago.
She blessed me for making his last summer so enjoyable.
So crappy pull moter or not, I feel that the old man is with me every time I head out. He smoked cigars quite freqently, I try to have a cigar when ever I am afloat.
Besides, if I put a stronger motor on that thing Waterfoul will definatly be fishing me out of the drink. :D

Yeh that is true tho...Mike came by after my gasline disconnected to see if I needed to be towed in.... To this day I wonder if that was an insult or if he was actually being helpful :smile-mad :D:lol:
Actually because of this, I am thinking of naming the boat "LEAKS N CREAKS" to rythm with "lakes and creeks"
I do have another motor, so much torque tho...plus I consider it loud. :yikes: If I consider it loud ... beware.
Maybe I will install it and BUZZ by you guys scaring YOUR fish away :evil::evilsmile

This is what I wanted to check out...read something like this earlier in the thread.
"We will be limiting this years events to 15 boats per night. Participants who fished with us during the 2007 season will have priority over those who did not in the event more than 15 boats show up to any outing."
So your saying I get there a 5 o'clock, paid, and ready to fish...and somone running late gets there at 5:45 and is the 16th boat, but fished last year...I get sent home?
I have Mondays off and could probably make a few of these tournaments, but with that rule in place...I don't think it's worth the risk to pull my boat all the way to Tamarack for instance, wait till 5:55 or what-ever the cut-off is, and be told I can't fish...that doesn't sit well with me...
Am I understanding this rule correct?
thedude
05-21-2008, 01:52 PM
we only had 7 boats or so last year, so it really shouldn't be an issue. The 15 boat rule is namely because most of the lakes have limited parking available. I should clarify that it is 1st come 1st serve, but if there are 4 open spots and 6 boats pull in at 5:49... i will give preference to last years members.
in hindsight, i might just change this rule and allow people to pre-register at registration for upcoming tournaments to reserve a spot if needed.
you can always call my cell and find out if there is still room also. in fact i think i will change that right now.
waterfoul
05-21-2008, 06:38 PM

nothing against hardy, i actually like fishing some areas of that lake.
thanks for thinkin bout us poor folk with baby boats:lol: i dont no all the lakes on the list but will try to learn them again this year and if nothing else i can donate with the best of them lmao:fish:

First was 11.? and Dave and I had 10.? Difference was around a pound or so... winners had a really nice 4.2 pounder to kick them over us. Our big fish was 3.2ish I'm sure Justin will post the results when he gets a chance. Either here or over on www.westmichiganbass.com
Everyone seemed to have a good time and most people caught fish. Justin had things to give away to those who didn't place (gamma products). I think it went pretty well for our first one of the year.
ALSO, I mentioned it last night... but any COTM member who comes into the Grand Rapids West Marine while I'm working (which is most days of the week, PM me before you come in) will get 10% off their purchase. You must be a signed up COTM member for this, and you must deal with me in the store (so I can prove to the powers that be that I do indeed bring in customers! LOL!!!). Batteries, fuel line and connectors, cleats, trailer rollers, trailer winches/straps, just about anything your boat or trailer could need. The only thing I can't get you a 10% discount on is electronics... the best I can do there is 5%.
