They have a no-name battery with charger for $20. Thought that was worth mentioning after driving out to Cabelas only to find they won't have vex batteries in stock til the summer.

I got a battery and charger @ Knutson's in Brooklyn last winter for $20. and they had plenty of them!

Electrical supply houses will have 12v batteries as well.

If they sell any sort of fire alarm equipment, they will have the batteries. I've even seen them at home depot too.

Computer stores sometimes have them as well, they are the batteries used in the UPS systems.

It's not an exact science, the most critical part is the voltage followed by the amp hour rating.

Be creative, if a 12V isn't available then use two 6V connected in series.
