A power auger for less than 1' of ice, LAZY!

Maybe the power auger is all he has to use? Or perhaps he has a physical problem that won't allow him to use a hand auger (Arthritis/Nerve condition/etc)
Either way power augers don't scare perch very much at all. I've drilled plenty of holes in shallow water and stared down to see nice perch swimming around. Quit complaining and start catching fish.:)

I laughed watching some idiot pounding the ice at Metro with an auger that needed new blades. Now that he's bent it all up new blades won't help much. What a Maroon!

if he wakes up the neighborhood an hour before first light 3 mornings in a row how long until they bubble the end of the canal? and no one needs an auger anyway, you spud 3 inches of ice. lets see....20 bucks at any bait shop vs 300 plus for the 'all he has' monster...i aint buyin that...its this kind of pure stupidity and lack of class that is closing off access for everyone...this isnt the open lake its someones yard.

I can't believe some people will give a guy a hard time for just going out and doing what everyone here loves to do. FISHING. Completely within the guidelines of the law I might add. Maybe these are the only tools he has to fish with. So what if they bubble the canal. There's plenty of water fish.

Speaking as a water front owner and as a fisherman it all boils down to being considerate of the nearby landowners! If you have a handicap and need to use a power auger then you have to use a power auger but just think about this! Would you want someone in your back yard firing up a loud motor early in the morning! Be considerate don't litter and make as little noise as possible.

I believe mwakely hit it on the head. There is a lack of common courtesy. Not just on the ice...the whole dam region. Just think about the last time someone gave you "the wave". I remember my grandpa driving would always give the wave, and so do I. But there are honestly alot of inconsiderate SOB's out there these days.
I've been out on the lake before light a couple times and I took my hand auger to use before daybreak when we had a power auger. I'm not a lakefront owner, but there's just something wrong about starting a motor up at 6am on a Sunday morning. Aren't there regulations concerning how many decibels you can make between certain hours?

You downstaters crack me up. Complaining about a guy who uses a power auger to cut through the ice.I live on a lake, noise in the morning is a trade off for the advantages of living on the lake. I don't own the water nor does anyone else living on a MI lake. If someone is going to be pissed about a power auger they already didn't want you fishing on "their" lake.

well.... would it be anything like someone screaming by with a 50hp merc on the back of a 17' aluminum boat at 5am?
I feel bad for the people who live next to the boat launch that opens at 4am.. it's easy to idle once the motors running but to get it started might require a rev :(
as stated above though, that is one of the trade offs to living on a lake i guess?

It's just a matter of being considerate, whether there's a law against it or not. This whole "I can do whatever the f*** I want" mentality really sucks.

ice thats 8'' or less i use an ice spud. some of the hand crank augers might be faster or a power auger too. but after two shoulder surgerys those turn crank augers are out of the question for this shoulder. an lookin at me you wouldnt know i get VA disability for the shoulder. an i know there are fisherman moaning about my spud noise even when im 50' plus foot away from them.

I agree with you Bob, Its people like this that screw it up for everybody that does not have private access to the water. I was fishing in a marina yesterday and could not believe how people act on private property when the land owner is nice enough to let people fish free of charge. How long do you people think they will continue to let us fish when you act the way you do. Always pick up your trash, watch your langauge, and do not releave yourself in public, this will help you out for access in the future.
P.S.
I used to live on the Metro canal system and in my days if you cranked up a power auger before 8:00am, you might have found yourself full of paintballs from my balcony window.

From reading these threads it sounds like a lot of people have there honey-doos all done and cant wait to go back to work wed. Im just as anxious as everyone else on getting this hard ice already and tight linen, but i've learned in life that people learn by example not by lecture. Get-R-Done

i sat here thinking about this whole thread and thought that if people mind there own bees wax there would be a lot less of this talk .a loud snow machine just went down a trail that is near my house does this meen that i should go and salt the trail or call the police, put up signs no mind my own bees wax and be happy that there are people out there useing the awsome things that michigan has to offer. it makes me sick to here about people bubbling and doing all types of things to stop what has been given to us to enjoy .its just to bad that these are the thoughts that come to their minds a way to stop what is bothering them at the moment.

There's a big difference between someone going past your house on a machine versus someone standing on a dock taking a pee, waving his watchee around right across the canal from someone's picture window. There's a pleasant sight while you and your family try to have Sunday breakfast. That's what happened at the 11 Mile access in St. Clair Shores.
Besides all the trash left behind by inconsiderate slobs. Bait containers blowing around, empty gas cylinders left on the ice, etc., etc., etc.
Leave a place cleaner than you found it.
Big difference.

verry big difference i did not read the thread on the watchee being waved around and at that i would have to agree . not good sportsmanship. and about the garbage i always grab a hand full on the way off i dont think you will ever get rid of the pigs.
Seams to me that Boedy had the only correct answer! Offer to drill a hole for them or lend them your spud or hand auger.

uhhh, if you live on an inland lake, yes u do own the water. duck hunters know plenty about the reprimarian rights... take your lot and draw a pie shape line directly to the middle of the lake, thats all urs. the only people who do no own the water from their property are those who dont live on inland waters, hence why float hunting is illegal on most rivers where there isnt stat land on either side.
Although certain Michigan statutes and court cases have defined what constitutes
a private lake for a very limited purpose in a particular context, there is no overarching
definition. If what is meant in a given situation is a lake with no public access site and
which is entirely surrounded by private property, it would be a private lake and members
of the public have no rights of access to the lake. However, even with that definition of a
private lake, the water is still owned by the people of the state of Michigan. Accordingly, if
someone were to drop from a helicopter to swim, was later picked up by the helicopter and
never touches land, technically, that would be permissible, even on an otherwise private
lake. In short, there are many inland lakes in Michigan which have no public access
rights. The bottom of the inland lakes are owned by the landowners around the lake but they do not own the water, in ice fishing you are not touching the bottom of the lake, so if you can access the lake by a public access than there is nothing anyone can do to keep you off of the water.
Riparian Rights only apply to the land under the water, http://www.mwai.org/WATER_LAW.htm

For $400, You should be able to fly in on a power auger. My 5" lazer got it's first new set of blades after 7 years. Recollection tells me it was about $60 back then and it poked plenty of holes in 24" + inches in anchor bay last year alone.

They get a ticket because they anchor their decoys in the bottom. Or so that is what I had read in another thread around here.

Hunting rights go with the riparian owner, and fishing rights do not. Never fully understood it myself. If there is a public launch, you can anchor off a guys dock and fish all day and they can't stop you. Do the same thing duck hunting, and you are going to get a ticket.
