So how did every one do, and where did you hunt? Was it over bait or with hounds?

I shot my first bear last year and it was a blast. I hunted in the Bergland management area.I hunted over a bait in a ground blind. It was the coolest experience of my life. My bear was 120 pounds dressed and it was a male. I shot my bear with my 30-06 using 180 grain corelock bullets. I'll never forget this hunt.

I received my first Bear permit last year. A friend of mine lives in the U.P. near Ironwood, Mi. I drove up to the U,P. 3 times to bait. The first time I put out 2000lbs, of bait (breads, donuts, grease, etc.) Now, 2000lbs after 2weeks was GONE! The second time I put out 1500lbs. of bait. 2weeks it was gone! The last time I baited was 3 days before I hunted. I put out 500lbs with 200lbs of corn. In 3days it was just about gone. I did shoot a 200lb bear field dressed. I will remember that for a long time. I did all the work myself, baiting- it's a lot of work! When an outfitter charges 300/400 dollars to hunt, thats cheap. So you guys that are going to apply for a bear permit, to do everything yourself takes a big comment to do it right.

birddog- I live in the grand rapids area. From here, it's about 11hr. drive one way! The first weekend I baited I tryed to do it just sat. and sun. It's too far to go! I was dead the next week. It worked good to go up fri. morning, relax and bait sat., relax and drive home sun.! It was fun, but a lot of WORK. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, but been out of town.

Larry, yes I did go behind dogs. It cost $1000 for a five day hunt. It didn't include anything but the hunting. You had to find hotels and all your food. It was with Leo Dollins.

Birddog if you go to some of the URL's for pictures that you have tried to post here it says that the URL cannot be viewed externally. That's why the pictures are not showing up here. It has to be a regular www.xxxx.xxx (http://www.xxxx.xxx) address, such as one you might get from your ISP.

I don't know about you guys but I'm just glad I can't see those www.XXX.XXX (http://www.XXX.XXX) sites Steve is talking about. My wife gets more than alittle irritated when she sees those types of pictures.

Join the club guys i can't partake myself so count me out to.
Last year was my first bear hunt. I hunted over bait in southern Marquette County. The bait was getting hit almost every day. I had a trail timer set up, and the logs were scattered every which way at about 9:00 pm. some nights. Other times, one log was rolled away, and the bait was gone. This was usually about 4:00 am. We were calling the unknown bears "Yogi" and "BooBoo", according to how bad the bait piles had been taken apart. Well, Sept. 26, I had been sitting all day and it was approaching evening. A deer was feeding in front of my raised blind and she went on alert, wheeled around and left. I knew something was up. Sure enough, a bear! Because of the time (about 7:30 pm), this should have been Yogi (the big one - the bait pile wrecker). I watched for about 15 minutes to be sure there weren't any cubs, and when the shot presented itself, it was mine. It turned out to be about a 130 lb. male - BooBoo. I guess because it was all by itself and at that time of night, I thought it was a monster bear. Oh well, I learned that bears come in different sizes, and they come in at different times of the day & night. I was still happy about taking my first bear.
