Decided to try a new lake in the Hiawatha National Forest; as my wife had to work today. I put on my new snowshoes & walk about 20 minutes to reach the lake & start drilling holes. Get the Jiffy auger started, then pull down the throttle bar to start drilling the first hole. All of sudden the throttle wire connected to the engine; it pops off. The part where the wire attaches to the engine throttle broke. I now have a running auger with no throttle control & can't drill holes without power. Decide to shut the auger off & figure that I must be on Santa's bad list & that's a sign for me not to fish. I'm determined to ice fish & look at the broken part; trying to figure a way to make the throttle work. I carry a set of needle nose pliers, connected by a 6"
steel wire leader to a stretchable key ring. Took the leader off the pliers; then opened the snap & attached it through a small hole in the broken part. On the other end of the leader I put a key ring & attached the key ring to a carabiner. When I pulled on the carabiner there was throttle control on the engine. It only took about an hour to rig this make shift throttle control device. Kinda like Santa's make shift toy repair shop on the ice. Almost a foot of ice & there's still more than a foot of snow on the roads to lakes up here. Did manage to catch a few small fish. Guess that was my lump of coal for my Christmas stocking. Happy Holidays To All. Jeff

American ingenuity, just gotta love it. At least you were able to fish some. Good job.

I think they call those kind of happenings, Murphys Law. Nice recovery.
