What is the best lake to fish in Emmet county? I will be up there next weekend and would like to get out to do some ice fishing. I will be in Harbour Springs so something close to there would be great. If anyone knows a bait shop in the area that would also help.

Thanks

Crooked would be my first choice in that area. I recall going to a bait shop in brutus, but may have one in conway or the marina on the north shore of crooked (don't recall the name).
Best of luck.

The bait shop you are looking for is Young's in Alanson. I haven't been out since the recent warm up and high winds. Prior to that there was generally five inches on most of the surface of Crooked Lake.

On Pickeral Lake there was decent ice as of Thursday however, dangerous thin ice was reported in deeper waters beginning at the drop offs.

There were a few anglers fishing on the north end of Walloon today (12-24) off the golf course.
On the big arm there was just 3.5 inches prior to the warm-up. Probably unsafe and variable now.

Lake Paradise just south of the bridge is a large but shallow lake and generally is a good first ice lake as well.

Susan Lake in Charlevoix county is a good little lake with lots of bass and pike to keep you busy most days. Ice should be safe and relatively predictable on this lake and I'm guessing 6 to 7 inches in most areas.

I haven't been out to Burt yet although with the recent weather I'd think it's questionable at best.

So there's your run down. Good luck, be safe, and please post a report if you get out.

Fished several lakes in the area the past few days.... fishing is good pretty much everywhere right now.

Went out last Friday and Sunday and only got one 17" walleye.

Some others I saw where slammin the 12" perch but I couldn't find em.

Maybe I will have better luck with the lakes back home in GR.
