If I'm starting with a cottontail distress should I stay on that for that entire stand or should I be switching it up? I usually sit it out for 30 min but I have this temptation to throw out some invitation howls or interrogation howls. If I start with howling can I switch it to a distress call and if I do how long do you break in the calling. I don't want it to sound like every little critter in the woods is dying where I'm sitting, but I think mixing up some howls and distress calls might not hurt? Any suggestions?

later in the season, jan-feb that'll work good. but it's too early for howls. imo

I use howling to call yotes 95% of time. Any time is a good time to howl. I howl consistantly and loud. When Dogs respond I then try to agitate them with agressive barks, howls and growls. After they're worked up play any distress sound to bring them in, pup in distress works wonders for me.

With the cottontail call, give them about an hour to get there. I used to do short stands but I've figured out that they take a little longer to get there than 30 minutes.
