Am I reading this correct? To hunt coyotes I need to have a small game license and a fur bearers license. Or just one or the other. :dizzy:

You only need a small game to hunt coyotes..
Here is a site for more info...
www.michigan.gov/dnr (http://www.michigan.gov/dnr)
Maybe this should be a sticky on both threads, there are alot of people that ask this question.

According to DNR regulations, you may hunt coyote with a small game license.
To hunt fox, bobcat, or raccoon you will need a fur harvester license.
If you have a fur harvester license you may hunt/ and or trap fox, bobcat, coyote, raccoon, and you may trap badger, bobcat, fisher, fox, coyote, weasel, mink, raccoon, beaver, otter, shunk or opossum.
In other words, if you only wish to hunt coyote you need only a small game license. However, if you only have the small game license you would have to pass on the fox or bobcat that you may call in.
In my opinion the fur harvester license is the only way to go.
I hope that this information answers your question.

I'm unable to find anywhere in the DNR regs more detail about what license/s I need to hunt coyotes at night from Oct. 15th to March 1st...I know that I need a small game license for coyotes from July 15th to April 15th on State & Federal Land during daylight hours...and I know that I need a fur harvester license for fox and bobcats (to hunt bobcats I also need a permit/tag and can only harvest in certain counties) during their seasons...but to be safe...I bought both...I don't like to shoot fox around here because of the lack of numbers...but at 11pm...a large male red fox can look like a small female coyote at 40 yards in the snow...

here is a thought for people concerned, if you buy your small game license your combo deer tage then a furharvester it is the same price as just the small game and the combo deer. the guy at meijer didnt believe me until he rang it all up. so just get your free furharvester.
