Are bigger bait pits better than smaller? Should you put alot or a little bait out every day?

birddog,
I put out 5 gallons per station, I feel that if you put out too much the bears will come when they want, if you use small amounts they have to come early before the other bears eat it all, just my theory. Good luck getting a tag. I applied on Monday.

Do you think with only 5 gallons of bait at a station you could hold a good number of bears at each stations? Just curious I myself use at least 10 gallons and some times more depending on how many bears are useing that bait station.

birddog, I walk into my bait stands so I hav eto carry everything in, I split the bait equally between tow buckets so It might actually be 10 gallons. What do you use for the bait. I use fish guts, dry dog food and resturant grease. Not sure I will use the guts this year as probably will attract wolves which are supposed to be in my area, West UP.

Yooper I run all my baits by quad so that makes it easy on me to get to my 40 bait stations.I use pie filling, donuts, strawberry cream cheese.I will not use meat scrapes because of the wolves because they can be a problem. They will leave scent pockets around your bait station.

birdog,
I read in Bowhunting Authority magazine that you should use about 10 gallons, just enough to keep them interested but not satiated. With 40 baits do you guide for people? I have some friends who are looking to hunt(if they get a tag) and I might not have time to bait for them, hopefully going to Colorado for elk.

Yooper yes I have been guideing bear for quite soom time now and it seems my guide service is growing every year because we have a good kill record every year.I weent yesterday and picked up 10,000lbs of pie filling and thats not half the bait I will need for this year.

I generally feed my bears 5 to 10 galllons depending on how much they cleaned up the pit. I generally try to get all my baits on my line done before noon so it quite there in the afternoon. I've done this since I started running baits and my baits always do very well. I also don't screw around at my bait stations I feed them, look around very little, and leave. Thats why the guys gave me the title of the masterbaiter, lol. Born
