Not a veteran, I'm hoping to become a black bear veteran but only have one to my credit. Also only twenty years old.

Yeah, I can't even get any sleep in my deer blind. The bear would definitely keep me awake.

Well i see some one took the time to check them pics out.I guess you would call them veteran applicants if they have applied for 9 years and are still hoping to get a tag.I'm still working on posting them pics in this forum should have it figured out later.

I too only have one bear under my belt. I applied for three years and on the tird year got my tag and my bear. I do consider myself a veteran bear baiter tho. I think I've experienced everything possible that can happen to you in the woods running bear baits. The ole man just shakes his head and laughs but it makes me tougher for the next time, lol. Born

Not sure what it takes to be a veteran. I have shot two bears in Ontario. One was with a muzzleloader. I passed on bears on my last two trips to Manitoba as I am now looking for a big bear, over 300 lbs. There are harder to find where ever you hunt. I did see a sow that size, but she had 4 cubs with her so I came home with 20 minutes of great video instead of meat.

I have bear hunted since 1981 when you could buy tags over the counter.I have hunted along the Pine river north of St. Ignace and near East Lake and the Carp River, also I did a lot of hunting near Twin Lakes,South Range,Alantic Mine,Donken,Tapiola and Chassell in Houghton Co. I don't hunt bear like I use to,as a matter of fact I haven't even applied for a tag in a long time.I use to take off a week or two from work and take about 3 hunters with me and I would bait their sites and my own. I usually stayed at Twin Lakes State Park on M-26. I have taken bear with my 45/70 Marlin and with my bow. I find it a lot harder to get tags for all the hunters that want to hunt with me,so I now hunt turkeys, I find it a lot more challenging and exciting and I don't have as far to drive to hunt, and can hunt other states also.Good luck on drawing your tags this year..hope you all have a great season. I want to see them BIG bear pics! Feel free to ask me some of my tips on hunting bear ;)

Strutnspur glad to hear you are willing to share your tips. Its to bad to hear you don't hunt bear anymore.Sounds like you enjoyed the sport. They have new rules now in applying for tags where you can have up to 4 hunters in a party. It would be nice to see people like yourself not give up such a sport.

I 'm a complete novice - haven't had the opportunity to try yet - no luck with permits. I like the new point system, however, and I'll be applying again this year.

Stay after it Maverick with this new points system you should be able to pull a tag about every 3rd or 4th year.Hopefully this new points system will not have any flaws in it.
